For some reason, all 4 are missing from my XM. Not critical, but I wouldn't mind banging some in, if anyone has them.

Hi Samwise
You will have to get new ones because once they have been removed the lock buttons will not grip the threaded rod again, they are quite cheap from citroen though, which makes a change Regards Dean -------------------- 92 xm 20i prestige auto (modified)R.P 5678

Hi Sam
Mk1 and Mk2 buttons are interchangable but they have different embossed face patterns and this actually notices so get Freeborns to order the right ones for you. I might be able to find a set of secondhand Mk1 ones if you have any difficulties getting new ones. It is often possible to reset the inner catch and reuse a lock button particularly if is was released by using a small electrical screw driver to ease up the catch projection that is just visible when the button is in the raised position. If the plastic teeth inside the catch are torn and no longer grip the operating rod then a bit of insulation tape wraped round the top of the operating rod may well give you a working button. S2 buttons ( Part Number 96 029 296 ZL) at £7.40 each don't seem too dear to me if they wont grip properly!

Now this sort of info is why this forum is so invaluable! I have been meaning to order some new ones for my S1, both front cards have been on and off so often to swap mirrors they (the locking buttons) refuse to work anymore. I swapped the rear one with the front drivers side just so I can lock it from inside if necessary (a lot of people apparently drive with the doors locked in this city now, I think thats a bit silly, but like to have the option). I am going to be trying the tape on the top of the rod trick quite soon now, you can be sure. thanks xmexec. -------------------- XM 2.0i Prestiege (Red) 1992 K reg RP 5692 (deceased)

you can actually (or used to be able to) purchase the little gripper bit on its own (in sets of 10), worth seeing if they are still available and next time you're in a yard that has an XM, nab a few buttons, probably for a few pennies and then you're sorted
Reminds me.... Just dug out the pack I have, part number is: 95 654 096 Must get round to sorting the buttons on mine regards Dave -------------------- G-reg XM V6SEi saloon, light blue, RP4764

Hi Dave
Very useful that as my stealer has always claimed the little grippers are not available seperately. Particularly as the grippers are common to both types of button. Will try with my next order as I have a heap of spare buttons. Regards XMexc This post has been edited by xmexclusive on February 01, 2008 03:16 pm -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Roughly how much do the dealers charge for the buttons complete? I'm weighing up whether it's worth the faff of getting old ones and putting in new grippers.
