The Climate Control Panel on my Series II stops working and the A/C fan cuts out for a few minutes if I leave the fan on the highest setting in hot weather. I replaced the 30 amp fuse in the engine bay which seemed to cure this problem but no such luck. Could there be another fuse, relay or perhaps the fan motor control fault that I need to fix?

Hi Cattledog

It is not just the engine compartment F2 fuse but the contacts that it plugs into that burn up. Try PeterN's quick fix and with a pair of pliars twist the legs of a 30amp fuse a bit skew so they will work even if the fuse contacts are loose.

mine went totally dead last oct,

As you might be able to see it was impossible to insert a new fuse (bottom left), one of the contacts had totally self destructed (like the fuse) and bad melting had also occurred.

Fuse box was replaced by new one from dealer, but many use scrap ones.

If you are lucky the twisting legs trick might work for a while I guess. You might considering picking up a spare fusebox anyway, or just wait for it to fail again.

regards

Your problem may not be the corroded or burnt contacts in the fuse box. I suspect it is elsewhere, since you say 'fan cuts out for a few minutes'. When this happens again, try to switch off the ignition and restart. Bet it'll work again.
I have this problem intermittently but have not found the actual cause. I had the burnt fusebox thing with my previous XM, but in my current model, with 40A fuse, the box is clean.
I am not really an electronics wizard, but I suspect that the voltage drop caused by the fan operating at max, causes a relay in the A/C ECU to cut the power.

However, of course you need to check that notorious under-bonnet fusebox tongue.gif

I have physically replaced the 30 Amp fuse with an inline blade type waterproof fuse holder from an Auto electrician. Took a while to work out how to wire it up as it wasn't immediatly obvious. Checked out the wiring diagram to see that my fuse box has two 12 Volt rails and that I needed to use a connector and cut the blue wire to bypass the problem fuse holder. Initally that seemed to cure the problem but to no avail. I've tried the switch it off route but it does not seem to work for me hence my request. It may be the relay as discussed by Jan-hendrik. Thanks for the replies.

Hi Cattledog

Sorry the F2 fix did not solve your problem. As with all XM ECU's Citroen treat the climate control panel as a closed box to be replaced if defective so details of the circuit boards are not published in the maintenance manuals. It might be worth levering the panel out and removing and refitting the 2 electrical plugs just incase it is a poor contact. My next step would be to try a spare climate control panel or yours in a known good car. Not an option open to you I suspect.

Thanks XMexc will try the cleaning the contacts as suggested. I dont have ready access to another panel unfortunately. May have to get a spare if this problem persists.
