I am not new (in fact I am 66) but I thought I would take a leaf out of Noz's book and introduce myself.
I first got involved with Citroens about 20 years ago when in pursuit of the perfect diesel. Until then I hade done a number of diesel conversions as there was nothing outstanding on the market, then I discovered the CX which really blew me away, over the years I had 3 of them, the last being a TD Safari, which despite numerous head gasket failures and a useless heater, I had for 7 years and about 160k miles (total miles when I sold it 262k). I then moved onto XMs, much improved for creature comforts but not nearly as nice to drive as the CX. My 1st was only a couple of years old and the electrics nearly drove me mad. I have had 3 more since then, the last 2 being Mk 2s, which in my opinion are much better cars for reliability. The one I have at present, I purchased really cheaply because although it had only done 114k, most of the electrics didn't work, I didn't have to much trouble sorting them out but I am a TV engineer, which helps. I have also had to replace the head gasket (2.1 td estate) which took about 10 times longer than on the CX, but its a lovely car and I would reccommend them to anyone although better if you can DIY as the can be expensive to repair. I have also owned, or rather my wife has, 3 BX diesels, that last being a TZD turbo estate, a very under rated car, and at present she has a ZX td estate, not so nice, but in view of my advancing years, not so much to go wrong. We live in rurual Dorset, lovely part of the world. Congraulations to all you other owners out there. Peter.N. -------------------- Used to have:

Just a P.S, I would like to express my thanks to the originator of this site and to the many contributers, especially Noz, who seems to know everything!

Hi Peter,
Nice to have a fellow XM nutter on board. Who knows why we do it. I too cut my teeth on CX's having had 5 in my driving career. The three mentioned in my signature, an Athena and a 2.4. My ultimate aim is to get a hold of a scrap XM 2.5TD and transplant the lump to the CX2.4 GTi 'cos its lump is frost damaged and probably beyond repair. The thought of having the power from a 2.5 in a CX body is something dreams are made of. Thanks for the kind works. Probably unfounded though. I rate myself only as a keen amateur. Most of the fixes are first hand borne out of necessity. I probably know something akin to the tip of the iceberg. I just like to share it with fellow sufferers, thats all. It does make you wonder though........... Cheers noz -------------------- '10 '59' C5 2.0 HDi Exclusive Tourer Metallic Grey

That's the best way of learning Noz, Thats where all my information has come from. I would be interested to know if you can do that transplant. I used to think that the performance of the CX25 DTR was brilliant, without the intercooler it was only 95 hp but the intercooled one was about the same as the 2.1 td XM. I used to put Perkins engines into all sorts of things, but they were rear wheel drive, a much simpler proposition. Was it just mine or did all the CX DTRs consume headgaskets like oil filters?. Did you have any luck with your oil cooler?.
