Abs Sensor

HI, I have a problem with my sensor for ABS... he dont work.. My car is from 1996 and in my country i can"t find new or old sensor. I live in Serbia...
My question is, where I can find it?

Firstly, can you tell us What your car is.. What engine, trim level, VSX, SX, exclusive. And which sensor front or back and which side

I assume you drive on the Right side of the road

We drive on left in uk..

Hi Sambo

The type of ABS fitted to XM's changed during 1996.
It would help to know the ORG number of your car.
ORG number is painted on the drivers side (LHD cars) door pilar between the hinges.
For ORG up to 6809 ABS is BENDIX and sensors have GREEN electrical plugs.
For ORG 6810 onwards ABS is TEVES (marked ATE) and sensors have BLUE plugs.
These sensors are not interchangable.

Hi Sambo,

They are almost impossible to remove without damaging them, so used ones will not be available.

New ones can be bought in this country, I fitted one to my car last year, but the problem may be in making payment. Excuse my ignorance, but do you have credit cards in Serbia? They are quite expensive, I think I paid £65 including postage for mine.

From my experience, I would not try to buy a new sensor until I had checked every connection in the system, also checked the relay. Any corrosion in the connections and in the relay external contacts will cause the ABS light to come on. And don't forget the connection just over the rear axle. Clean and seal with "Vaseline" (Petroleum jelly) pushed into the socket and smeared over the terminals too.

I agree with Techmanagain that you should check the connectors before replacing sensors. It has already been mentioned that the rear connectors are on the top front corners of the rear subframe for both types of ABS. On the TEVES the front connectors are cable tied to the inside of the little chassis wing for the bolts that hold the sides of the bumper on. You have to remove the front part of wheel arch lining to get at this connector. The other TEVES connection is a multiway plug to the ABS ECU that is on the ABS hydraulic block that can be found mounted on the front subframe just under the front end of the battery box. I think the main TEVES
ABS relay, coloured purple, is on the front of the ABS box at the other side of the engine bay. TEVES sensors are held in place by a single bolt and I have known these to be missing/broken leading to intermittant ABS faults. It is also worth cleaning the slots in the toothed wheel as it is the air gaps that generate the magnetic field that the sensor turns into an electrical pulse. The muck that collects between the teeth has a high content of fine metalic filings from brake disc and pad wear and can degrade the the magnetic field so much that the pulse is missed.

Yes we have credit cards, but payment is not problem because my father own one of the biggest speditions in serbia and I think we can bay it and transport the sensor over my company.
Im gona check with father because I have only 17 years....

Hi Sambo,

I bought my front sensor from AEP direct. I have emailed them asking if they can supply a rear sensor, they reply:

<<Hi Derek We will need the full chassis number of vehicle & the make of sensor.>>

I suggest you email them yourself at frontcounter@aepdirect.com, give them the information they ask for and of course the make, model and year of your car.
