Hi Folks

The clock and temperature readout on the right had display of my 1990 Si has an odd quirk.

The display does not in fact display the time or temperature. It illuminates all segments of the numbers in the display ( a series of 8888s). Any suggestions as to what might be wrong with it, and will it be a quirk that I have to live with?

Regards

Robert

Have you tried pressing either of the clock set buttons on the panel. I seem to remember that if the battery has been disconected you only get 8's till you start to set the time.

Hi Robert,

As Assich says, the clock will always light every LCD segment when power has been lost, but pressing the button should reset the clock and clear the 1888 display. If that doesn't work, you may find one of the buttons is jammed in behind the fascia, I had this on my old 2.0i. A bit of persuasion with a pin or similar should get it back into line.

Superb! I can now tell the time. I tried doing as you suggested in the past but was usuccessful.

One other thing, it is possible to change the temperature from farenheit to celcius?

Thanks

Robert

It must be possible, every other XM I've ever seen has had it in C... I didn't know it could do F, but you learn something new every day! smile.gif

I'd suggest holding in both buttons simultaneously, usually resets or switches modes with things like that.

not sure about changing, but my 89 V6 displays degrees-F where my previous but slightly later 2.0SEI's (90-91) displayed degree-C. Neither display seems/seemed to have the other character in it so I doubt it's an option to switch between though.

Dave

Strange... maybe its the usual 'what was available in the parts bin at the time'.

My 2.0i displayed C, and had an RP number which showed it as being manufactured in September '89, so must've been one of the earlier ones.

Hi All

I think Dave is right that the displays are fixed to one type of temperature readout. Interestingly all five editions of the XM Mk1 drivers handbook have a picture of the display showing 66 degrees F. All Mk2 handbook editions show 18 degrees C. The text in the Mk1 handbooks varies through the editions. The 89 launch one says C in the text with no mention of flashing in icy conditions. The 90 one says F with ice warning flashing between 26 & 38 degrees F. The 91/92/93 editions are back to C and that it flashes to warn of ice. I suspect that the reference to C in the launch handbook is an error when the french version was translated for the UK launch of the XM. So for the first couple of years UK XM's had F displays.
