Hi Sam

It will be like Russian dolls, you will go to collect the CX with its huge load space from Andrew and find that in the back is a slightly smaller Citroen car and in the back of that...............................

Guess I'd better show a picture of an Xm sooner or later or I'll be black balled off the forum sad.gif

The following pictures are VERY sad as the Xm pictured ended in a grisly fashion as some
have seen before here. A very basic 2.0i manual in Mandarin Red.

This car was indisputably the most capable likeable (OK loved!) car I had at the time and
somehow got used ALL the time at the expense of apparently more desirable cars: it was
actually literally a freebee when a pal of mine bought an Xm from W-s-M where the seller
offered a buy one get one free deal - IIRC the two cars came to £250 and the other car had
MOT/TAX and this needed trailering home. Didn't need anything for a fresh MOT and covered
the whole country and didn't miss a beat for a good few years after it's purchase. It's hard
to believe it';s not still outside waiting to go on another jaunt and I still miss it dearly.
I realise this sounds like a departed family pet - I'm worse with living things... sad.gif

Probably this one will appeal to Dean for some strange reason: tongue.gif
It's why I like wed wuns!!

I really love the stance of these from this angle and the highlight line on the rear
1/4 hip is really crisp in this shot:

Remember - it ended up like this:

http://club-xm.com/forum/index.php?showto...self+combusting

I fitted the rims off an imported car from Germany that a local garage I know was about
to scrap it as the clutch was on it's last gasp and the foreign owner just sold it for as much
immediate cash as was offered by the mechanic reading it's last rites. They were badged
Musketeer and I was just contemplating a proper refurb on them when events unfolded
and it didn't matter any more. sad.gif I love the offset which does really square the stance of
the car and I've rarely seen it on another Xm. By god it was stable and capable on those
rims and IIRC they were the 205's.

Ok, to try and finish on a more upbeat note, my first XM: a G plater 3.0SEi manual:

user posted image

- not the best picture and not staged in any way - more a reminder/photographic record
for me for just this kind of situation!! biggrin.gif It is very original and unmolested and has only
had a small band of previous fastidious owners.

They guy I bought it off gave up on it as the engine oil was mixing with the water system
and a feared head gasket was suggested. I bought it at the time when the second hand
values on these were actually still quite reasonable as a bit of a gamble on a lost cause but
I fancied trying my first V6. A water jacket emissions test proved there were no exhaust
gases present and the utterly horrible silly tinfoil oil/water heat interchanger/cooler has
found to be the villain of the piece - mind whilst a proper stainless steel brick outhouse
replacement off a CX DTR diesel was fitted the cooling hoses all manged to rot away due
to oil penetration inside the pipes at bends and constrictions which softened and rotted
the rubber from the inside out and a fair few scares were endured before I decided to seek
out every pipe and replace it... ouch

It had sat in a barn for two years awaiting it's fate and only recently went off the road as I
couldn't immediately find a correct replacement front caliper as one had seized and failed
it's MOT. A very nice car even if it photographs poorly - you have to see it in the metal to
appreciate the lines of the car.

I doubt it would have been the much loved companion it was had it been diesel Peter biggrin.gif

Andrew, can you please stop posting pictures of that beutiful xm as a burnt out wreck, it disturbs me unsure.gif sad.gif
Real shame though, must have broken your heart, with it being a mk1, the best colour xm there is and having lovely offset 5 spoke rims, and triple lamp conversion..............oh wait no thats mine biggrin.gif

The Red Xm looked superb, such a shame what happened to it sad.gif

Is the grey V6 still road going? Is that the colour i referred to as drab in another thread? If so it looks much better on yours. It must be great to have so many Xms cool.gif

Yes Chris; still goes extremely well, just the binding front caliper. Probably has the opposite side
giving grief in sympathy now too!

When compared with a rich maroon or sharp pale blue one, I guess the grey can feel drab and a
little anonymous and it really needs a decent shine to look special. It's a far darker charcoal than
the more popular silver. I'll see if I can find more presentable shots of it!

The car must've been a good'un to inpire my subsequent daft duplication of 'tothers!! laugh.gif

I'm still struggling to find pictures of the gold v6 Si; that DOES look like a nice colour clean
or mean'n dirty! smile.gif

I broke a Gold Si 2.oi ages ago due to TOO much rot and cost to repair!!

It WAS nice in that colour! My 24v is the "Drab Grey" as you (and citroenmad) call it andrew, but I actually like it and MUCH prefer it to the useual Maroone colour the S1's were useually in!

Speaking of nice colours on s1's, TE Phil reminded me I had this handy to take a piccy of earlier!

Not going anywhere at the moment as it needs a clutch (it just drives) and an alternator fitted to it!

The red Activa with winter pack including heated cloth seats and additional CRUISE CONTROL!!

This isn't going anywhere either as it's previous owner lost the locking bolts for the alloys
and drove the car until the front tyres were well past their use by date! ohmy.gif dry.gif huh.gif

And I need to get these characters that keep falling off the number plates fixed too! wink.gif

HAHA Andrew,

I drove A Xantia TD with Two engines!!! One in the front with 170k on it and a N/a 1.9d in the boot with 59k on it...

Drove like that for about 3 months if I remember rightly, the car never felt it in the back! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Very nice pictures Andrew.

What is the dark blue S2 lurking at the right of the first photo?

Can you not drill out the locking nuts on the activa? Seems a shame to have it stood there.

These bad boys will probably get the wheelnuts off.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3291-Universal-Emerg...A1%7C240%3A1318

What offst were the ones on the red XM, they do appear slightly further out and did look good.

The coachlines on the 'drab grey' XM really work and make it look much sleeker.

Chris, that's a black 2.5 Exclusive! Not mine mind, it's my pal's car so not really
appropriate in this thread about cars I've bought!! tongue.gif I quite fancy it but haven't
progressed any discussion on buying it - it's not going anywhere at the moment
though... wink.gif

Thanks for the link Dieselman. My father bought a Sealey set just like these for me at Xmas
as I had a similar problem on another Activa with identical wheels. That urgently required a
replacement set of front pads and a new anti roll ram for a new MOT but the bolts on that
car totally defeated the removal tool; I admitted defeat and went to a local Indy Cit guy I
knew would take care with the alloys. Cost me a few bob for a couple of hours labour just
after Xmas too!! dry.gif

I like the Platinum that has been described by some as drab although TE's Greeny Grey is
better. The pinstripe works well on several Xm's I have in differing colours.

I'd love to get those alloys back lost off the burnt red car. Never seen them since and were really
attractive and mustled up the appearance a treat. Never seen any more but they fitted perfectly
andthe offset did wonders for stable towing!

I saw those exact alloys on another xm, its for sale now on some strange site i stumbled on by accident the other night, i think its a 2.1......
Will see if i can find it later.

Edit, It was here http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...l%3Den%26sa%3DN but it would appear it has now sold....
