Pressure Regulator, Losing loads of LHM at rest

Changed the pressure regulator the other day. Car rises much quicker but is losing loads of LHM from the regulator but only once parked and not straight away. Car parked for ten minutes, very little leakage. Drove to South London in the Volvo on returning there is now a massive puddle underneath the car.

I would suggest a split in the rubber section of the return pipe.

Wish it were that simple but the rubber bit came off my other one.

Oh dear! I have had problems getting the pipe seals to work effectivly on the on the DV block as the unions are so close together you cant always get them tight enough.

All the joints are tight so bar laying under it till it spews out the LHM I think best answer is another regulator, or a can of petrol and a match!!!!

I know how you feel. Had a phone call from my son an hour or so ago to say that he was stuck with no hydraulic pressure in the red one. I drove it back and he brought mine. Its pouring with rain, I cant turn it round to get the front on the ramp because the grass is so slippery and there appears to be a bundle of hydraulic pipes hanging down under the passenger side - two's up on the matches!

It looks like it! but then you have to do that any way to get to where we live. I thought the pipes had been trailing on the road but on closer inspection it seems that something has hit them as they are flat and spraying LHM everywhere. I have ordered a pipe flaring tool and some fittings to repair them, at least I can get to them. I am hoping they will arrive tommorrow morning or he will be without his car as we are going to Wales for a few days.

Hmmmm sounds like the XM has tried to pass a ramp-shaped thing?? Once when I had mine with an engine fault for days, so zero pressure and car bottom-down, and the workers in the garage where it was had to shift car in and out of the place by pushing it, it scratched the ramp and later I found that except of the sills, also the main front height corrector lever had been seriously distorted.

With the FDV there are some pipes with standard (other than Citroen) flares at the end and these do not need pipe seals, but there are some pipes with Citroen type ends 3.5, 4.5 and 6.35 mm diameter IIRC. These pipes seal with very little tightening, in fact over-tightening only makes them leak more, so be aware when you are trying to seal a FDV pipe leak.

Following a "wanted" listing for a pressure regulator 'Jorgy' responded with what was wrong with my one. Given where the seepage is and the fact that the source cannot be seen easily he will be correct. It is a large O ring in the base. I followed the link and found it to be in French but with pictures. Google do a translation of sorts so I got it to translate the page. Here are the tools I need to do the job


Tooling necessary;
1 Forest 3
1 small screwdriver
Point 1
1 greenhouse attached
1 steel plate (or an old wrench) in order not to damage the location of the sphere.

Does anyone know of a greenhouse in a Forest preferably near to London or should I erect my own?

I have ordered the seals from Measham, Greenford at approx £15 and I will get them on Thursday.

hmmm, the FDV I just replaced on the V6 was all Cit-type flares. Yep, there's 6.35mm and 4.5mm pipes there, but no 3.5mm ones.

John, if it's the pipes that run along the front subframe then you may need 2 flare tools - 3.5 & 4.5mm.

Worrying about Brian's comment about overtightenning the unions as the FDV pipe top right (to PReg) seems to seep on mine, and must say nipping it up hasn't sorted it, but it is better. Oh well, maybe have to pop another new seal in and see when the weather is a bit better.
