Hello readers,

Has anyone changed an XM flasher unit? which I believe sits above and behind the passenger footwell fuse board. I have removed the kick panel and the glovebox so far, but still can't see the relays or flasher unit for other gubbins in the way.

A random indicator ticking sound has been coming from this area on and off for quite some time and culminated in the indicator switch melting apparently while the car was standing unused for the past week. This followed a trouble free 460 mile 'Dad's Taxi' run last Sunday. I was greeted this morning by a stink of burnt plastic in the car and a 'solid' indicator stalk. So my present plan is to replace both the indicator / lights / horn switch unit plus the flasher unit and check out the hazard warning light switch.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ken

Hi..

DONT bother changing the flasher unit, JUST change the indicator stalk unit ONLY!

They ALWAYS go!! Ones just sold on the Bay for £13..

Ive changed a few, mostly in Xantias due to the same symptons, and also changed my indicator stalk in my 1993 V6, also same symptoms..

So My bets ... just the stalk!

Good luck

Yep - what he said! I once was driving mine and "the smoke dun comed out" cruising on a freeway. Was a bit of a fright. A few weeks later it failed completely.

Thanks for the above replies and advice which I have followed and all seems well. I snapped up the recent £13 ebay switch as soon as I realised I had a problem! (somewhat cheaper than the £97 (inc VAT) indicated on the Citroen parts website!!) It arrived today and was fitted staight away. A similar (ie considerable)amount of dash dismantling was required to get the switch out as was needed to repair the left hand dot matrix display.

I'm still puzzled as to why the switch frazzled while the car was standing unused.
I can only assume that some sort of internal short between the permanent live supply to the lights / horn and some other terminal took place, leading to meltdown in the indicator switch region.

Regards

Ken

If you don,t mind my asking, how did you find out? Since citroen pr.net brought down the shutters its rather embarrasing making "how much" enquiries at the main stealers parts dept. given the number of times they have to assist me up off the floor!

Robert.

Citroen Service (the pr.net replacement) does allow you to get the part numbers and prices for free now (it didn't when it first started).

I think it is service.citroen.com or similar.

Full address is http://service.citroen.com. Have a password ready for when you join (no charge) as an "independent technician" or similar.
Very useful, but not very user friendly unless you have a mind with a "French logic" style tint to it.! Buit you get there eventually! rolleyes.gif
