Not sure whether I can be bothered to go too far into this, but someone may have an easy fix. When I lock the car with the plip the indicators flash and the car locks. When I unlock the indicators don't flash. The car unlocks with no problems. The alarm LED flashes rapidly all the time, locked, unlocked, ignition on or off. Any ideas?

That seems to be ok, as long as the alarm doesn't go off.

Is it an Onyx era of car, I cant remember if the Onyx was Petrol only or DERV too, but it seems like the L and M reg S1.5 cars has a factory alarm fitted, which surprised me..

The LED flashing rapidly I think is not a problem, I have an L reg DERV with NO plip, and I disconnected the battery dooing a job, when reconnected the alarm kept going off and on the S1.5's theres NO WAY of canceling it with out a PLIP, so I had to borrow my 24v S1 Plip, and it worked and reset the alarm thank god, and it behaves in the same way as yours.. so I'd say good luck, no worries, as long as your battery dont go flat and siren dont go off..

Hi Neil

I think all mine have done something different. The one I have now does nothing when you lock it but flashes several time when you unlock. As long as it works I dont bother about it. I don't think that the alarm has actually worked on any of mine, or I don't know how to use it. I expect someone will be along shortly who will explain it all.

As I said, it locks/unlocks fine, but the alarm doesn't set and as it's the only electrical fault on the car, I thought I might put some time into trying to sort it. This car's a big contrast with my last XM, a 24V S1 which seemed to have a new fault every time I opened the door! Great car when it was running, but it wore me down eventually! This 2.1TD has done about 60,000 miles in my possesion with not a single breakdown. If I could just fix the alarm and find someone to fix the RH channel of the stereo it'd be perfect!

Neil,

You've let the cat out the bag!

I know its late but tell us more of your S1 24v valve! What was its reg, is it still on the road or has it retired.. I'm trying to locate all the few that are left in the UK..

About 15 to 20 of them I beleve??

Peter N..

S2 cars alarms work in a slightly different way I think if I'm correct, but I guess if theres no flashing headlights or sirens going off its not a problem for concern..

Arent car alarms just a complete waste of time and car battery energy.. Since when did anyone take any notice of them. They always seem to be going off in Tescos car parks when everyone is about..

Where do I start?? It's a long time ago now, can't remember the reg off the top of my head, but it was a met grey H-plate. I bought it in late 1999 from a lady near Chatham. It was in very nice nick, and when I got it it went really well and drove just like it should. The woes started when I had it serviced by my local Citroen dealer - no names, no pack drill - who managed to snap one of the new plugs while putting them in! They even tried to charge me for sorting it all out. I

After many hundreds of pounds spent on parts to keep the thing going, and every problem you can think of right up to a wiring loom fire which took me 2 days to repair, I gave up when it ate a cam foolower and scored the cam. I sold it to a guy who said he had a scruffy 24V with a perfect engine and was intending to swap his engine into my car. I was sorry to see it go, but mighty relieved to get back to driving "Shed", my slightly soiled looking but totally reliable CX GTI Turbo 2.

Other Cits I've had include
BX 16V - two of these very underrated cars
1977 CX 2400 Super
1986 CX 25RI Familiale
1981 CX Athena
1982 CX 25D Safari

Hi Neil,

Mine is an S2 second edition In think. I know little enough about that so probably a waste of time but try this, it might work:-

Turn ignition on - Press "cancel alarm" button for more than 10 seconds and see if LED goes out. Did the alarm work at any stage since you've had the car. If not,the siren/headlights may be disabled. You could try a reset by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery ensuring that you have the master security code and radio code before doing so.

I have had my share of irritating alarm faults. I would happily settle for LED and plip indicator flashing signals as normal but without the siren/headlight going off.In other words a deterrent only insofar as it is one. Also have to admit I rather like the way the old girl bats her eyes at me when i return!

Robert.

Hi Neil, sounds like the same symptoms my 2000 2.1 vsx exhibited.Read through previous threads and swapped u/sonic sensors from my 94 excl 2.1, both MK 2's.No fix. Checked all body swiches, found one bonnet switch connector contacts oxidised, sorted that, no fix.Swapped control units-FIXED! Long way for a short cut!

S2 alarm systems are different to S1.5's in that S2 cars have an alarm cancel, were as the S1.5 dont, or least I cant find one...

Neilp,

Was the guy call Philp Van Delpht?? Or something similar??

The reason I ask is, my 24v is a H reg, in Grey! which when I bought it from him had recived an engine transplant from a car with an Excellent engine, but scruffy body.. the donar car was a 1992 car..

Would the reg: H326FJH ring any bells??!!!

That's the baby! Can't believe it hasn't self-destructed by now! Actually when it was running it was such a good car I'd be tempted by another one. Glad to know it's still around
