WOW

That looks a Tidy Granada on a D plate! I would have expected it to be all Red and bubbly by now tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Very nice!

Rgds

C

Thanks.

I bought it a year ago for £80 and it needed a tyre and some drive shaft gaitors for the MoT. It had done 65000 miles with one owner from new. Its a peach. No rot anywhere.

Lovely collection there Brad.
I must say, the Granada caught my eye too, very clean for the year. There can't be many about now in that condition.

I saw a cracking black Scorpio last night, it looked well loved, but its been a long time since I saw any of it's predecessors. Mind you, a guy from work did have a lovely navy late Scorpio, but some scumbags broke into his indy's yard one night and burnt it out.

There was a nice gold Granada round the corner from my parent's house when we were younger, I believe it was an '88/89, but the arches and door bottoms were starting to rot in a big way in '96/97!
Shame, I always liked the cars.

I noticed the two Marinas in the list. We used to run them at a couple of places where I worked. I was always impressed by the power and they were a nice comfy driving position. But I wouldn't risk more than 60 on a motorway they used to use too many lanes! wacko.gif . One of them was an automatic. It was a lemony limey sort of colour, a two door coupe if I remember right with very low miles. They used to use it to drive a mile up the road to the post office and a mile back! It used to do about 20 miles a week max! laugh.gif

PC did a Marina Coupe up as the General Lee a year or so back - called it the Generally. Fun use for a not-so-fun car!

Ahh, Marina. My first car.

At one time I aspired to a 1.8TC - which was an MGB in sheeps clothing. As said, scary agricultural handling with those lever dampers.

Many years ago my then car got run over by the back wheels of an artic. The insurance company arranged the hire of a "comparable" car - a 2 litre Marina - whilst mine was being repaired. With its offset driving position, heavy dead steering and lumpy ride and handling it was without doubt the worst "modern" car I've ever driven.

I picked it up in the morning, drove to work and back and returned it on the way home pleading for another car, any other car, in its place. They gave me a Hillman Avenger which was good fun.

I can't understand why anyone would want to keep one, let alone two, although I suppose they could be used for chicken coops.

I learned to drive in my mother's Hillman Avenger and loved it!!

Mind it was a home-made Avenger Tiger with the faux leather interior (including high back
white seats out of a Plymouth Cricket), lowered suspension and very smart unique
two tone metallic green graphite over honey gold paintjob and Cosmic low profile alloys etc... cool.gif tongue.gif

The car I'd really like that fits in that group is a Vauxhall Firenza; though I don't know whether I'd be able to resist trying to transplant a Jag straight 6, or a Rover V8 into it....

You're underselling the poor thing! it would have been a 1.8 'B' series engine if a Marina or if in 'Ital' guise it could have been an 'O' series 1.7. Most people missed the differences between Ital and Marina however.

Hi Wirdy

oh dear Marina / Ital nerdyness. My first two cars were Itals. They were seriously basic now I think back. Live rear axles on cart springs. They were fairly fun to drive since you could get the back out fairly easily and seriously easy to work on. It's just a pity they rusted to hell. I haven't seen one for years.

Moving onto my next car - a 309 or driving my parents Bx's seemed like moving years ahead in motoring and hence a love for french motors ( a history of BX, 309, 306, ZX, XMs).

Cheers

Tony

My very first car of my own was a 1.3 Marina super in British Racing Green. I loved it and it never let me down. The ride was very soft and it had the 1275cc Goldseal engine. It did used to flood the front passenger well in heavyish rain though.
As previously mentioned it was either 1.3 or 1.8 in Marina or 1.3/1.7 in the very bland Ital-the styling house were rather reluctant to be associated with it!

Alan.
