Minijet

Engine mounts are all the same on top, the only addition for the V6 is an extra mount at the front under the altinator.. so in theory a V6 would go straight in, and exhanust changed..

I'm not sure if the front mount is bolted or welded as an extra on the V6..

I too would love to have the car... As I said, I've got 5 now, I rescued a 2.0i Turbo Onyx auto before christmas, it was on the bay, and seller wanted £100 with MOT and TAX till Feb.. I'm toying with the idea of selling the Lump and putting my V6 into it, as the car is Black!

I DO HOPE someone does save it...

AndMcit..

That would be nice one day to come down for a weekend and meet you and the collection! I'm holding onto the DERV XM till April, when its MOT is due, hopefully I'll have everything done by then, my biggest problem is the Injection Pump is buggered, so need to replace it or something. I have a Lucas pump off a 205 Td, but not sure if it will work. Unfortunally, the Xantia Bosch pump didnt work on it, there were too many differences on it. (The XM has Bosch on it)

After all, if the engine has to come out anyway you may as well hoist a different
one back in...

Guess you could speak to the 100's of Pug 106/205/306/Saxo drivers who'll give
you chapter and verse to fitting a turbo 2.0i engine in something it was never
intended to go into - they're drip fed it every month in Max Power/Revs/Redline
t!ts oot for the lads mags...

You're better off fitting a 2.1 diesel lump in the bodyshell as it'll only need a
fraction of the electrics the fuel injected engine needs and it's all more
straightforward stuff rather than drive by wire etc I believe is found on the
2.5 diesel!!

All the best,
Andrew

I love the gloom maroon as it was the colour of the best Xm I've ever owned
(very sadly no longer with us now). This car will have the comfiest seats
(so what if the driver's seat is baggy) and wont have a cat so being a far
better accelerative car/tow vehicle.

I'd love this myself but need to sell now not buy.

In the last 2 months I've now already bought 2x Activas, a Xantia 2.0iVSX on LPG,
a CX GTi turbo2 and yet ANOTHER Xm v6 auto* and have just turned down another
Xantia and Xm from a mate who's got too many cars himself!!

I'd watch very carefully the loom for plugging a v6 into a 2.0i bodyshell
- you could end up with half of nothing like that ebay seller in Norwich way
who had such a project stalled and spead around in various boxes - didn't it
only raise 50quid for the lot which included a rebuilt autobox and v6 mill!?

Keep the Onyx unmolested!!

All the best,
Andrew

* as if I hadn't learnt the hard way with autos already I still buy another!!

Who said anything about the engine having to come out ohmy.gif

If I buy this car, it will be staying totally original. Make things as easy as possible biggrin.gif

Changing engines and things is OK, and as we've found on BX's is quite easy to do, but,
once you mention this to your insurers, a sharp intake of breath is the first thing you're likely to hear. sad.gif

The engine only needs work to change the clutch - by all means leave it in place
and make life more 'challenging' for yourself dropping the gearbox off through
the wheelarch instead - to be honest I've never had the patience for this fannying
about lark and a head on attack from above is the best approach!! smile.gif

Having owned two 2.0's and now a turbo I would have thought that the turbo would pop in with very little trouble - a much better use for a turbo that putting it in a small Pug. I would think that any of the V6's would pose major problems.

Sorry chaps, I have just raised the starting price to £175.
I may drop it back down before it ends, I just need some time to decide what to do.
Besides the positive comments about the car from Ken and others here, my daughter is adamant that I shouldn't get rid of it (she says she loves the XM, I think it's more likely she's not keen on the Astra).
I'm thinking about taxing it for another six months and running it until the clutch gives up completely.
I'll sleep on it, then either cancel the listing or reduce it back down to a more realistic starting price tomorrow.
I used to be indisisive.....now I'm not so sure....... wacko.gif
Paul.

Guess we could have a poll: keep it? - yes/no

I say keep it Paul - better the devil you know and all that
- listen to your daughter!!

As an extra bonus you'll know the clutch wont need doing for
another 100k miles or another 10 years or so...

Do you get that kind of reassurance with many second hand cars.
I'm sure I've got spare seats somewher if it's a big deal!

Keep it, you know it makes sense.

Go easy on the gas until the warmer weather comes, maybe March, and we'll get you a new clutch in it, ready for the summer.

If you need a second car and let this one go, how much is something else likely to cost you? smile.gif

Hi all

I would have to agree here, a clutch failure is no reason to get rid of what sounds like a good clean Xm, Wait for the warmer weather, get it sorted, and start enjoying the car again. Besides you don't want to be driving an Astra, they may be reliable (ish) but they are boring biggrin.gif

Ok, I granted it a stay of execution (a decision made a little easier after someone offered me 50 quid for it sad.gif - almost twice the price of a new glove box catch).

I'll tax it for another six months and I'll get it checked over before I think about replacing the clutch, just to make sure there are no other disasters waiting to jump out on me unsure.gif .

So don't be too surprised if you see it back on Ebay in the near future.

Paul.

In that case, I'd consider getting the cambelt replaced. Just to be safe.

Thats entertainment, I suppose mad.gif Just seen a similar thing with a BX. These people should get out more.

Not actually done a cambelt on a 2ltr one before, but can't see it being that bad and no real reason why it should be expensive.

The camshaft belt is far easier to change than the one found on a Xantia as there's a whole
lot more room!! laugh.gif There's no dark art to changing it with the Haynes being effective in it's
guidance and it's always worth noting as levels of calamity go if the belt snaps you 'only'
lose all the exhaust valves...

been there done that!

It'll take a whole day's fannying about and I'd highly recommend changing the water pump
and the correct tensioner (buy one at Citroen as GSF don't sell the correct type), prizes for
guessing how I worked that one out...

The list of big scary jobs does diminish substantially once you've seen off the clutch and timing
belt!

All the best, Andrew
