Hi all

Just looking around eBay and notice people offering these modern style wiper blades (the ones that just look like a strip of black rubber without all the metal/springs/etc) on older designs, such as the XM. Has anyone tried fitting such blades to an XM and if so are they really much of an improvement in terms of clearing rain? They certainly look neater but with something as important as wipers function definitely betters form.

Cheers

Keith

yep, been on the car for a while now (July 06) and still good.

Only thing I found was the passenger side blade didn't sit well to the glass on first fit so I had to ease the outermost tip (bend it back away from the glass to relax it) so it didn't lift the blade away in a wipe. Down to the curvature of the screen.

In my experience, they've worked well and I'd fit another set when the time comes

regards
Dave

I got some ebay one's a couple of months ago, they wipe the screen well but tend to judder now and again, not dependant on how much water is on the screen. The rubber itself seems soft enough, I always thought juddering was a sign that the rubber was starting to age and go hard, might have got some Friday afternoon ones huh.gif

nope, can be because of mis-alignment of the blade, and involves a bit of tweaking of the wiper arm to correct it out...

Car washes can tend to cause this effect as they stress the wiper arms as the cleaner brush flails about its business.

The tweaking may do the trick, but in normal use the wiper blades, or just the rubbers, require replacing every 6 to 12 months for optimal performance.
Just bought a set of graphite coated AC Delco blades for the XM. They cost only 3400 yen and that is for 3 blades. The Bosch set for just the windscreen is a lot more than that, 4800 yen or so blink.gif

Note what Bob (above) says: "can be because ..."
Here are some more possible causes of judder/streaking/screeching/whatever:
