Hi Dean,

Just sorting out the contentents of my hard drive and came across the photo' of your car; that's a seriously handsome vehicle. Did you fit that front end yourself? How much? Have you HID'd it?

Those wheels could almost overcome my aversion to alloys! Although I suspect the low ratio tyres won't do the ride any favours.

Derek

PS Hasn't Les done the same front end mod to his car?

Speaking of Les, where is he? I haven't seen a posting of his for ages - here or XM-L. I am worried that his illness may have got worse.

And I believe he has got the tripple lights, yes.

Thank you Derek, but it ain't anywhere near as handsome as your black 3l exclusive!
I did fit it all myself, it is very easy, you just unbolt the original units and bolt on the new ones. You have to cut the nosecone to fit but that wasn't too bad, Got someone to paint it though (nothing like professional paint job).
What is HID???
Cost wise, the triple lamp conversion was about £400 from cituning
The alloys dont make too much difference to ride quality, but the width (225) makes the steering pull a bit at low speeds on very uneven surfaces though.

Regards Dean

No response from Les or his Missus after my email at New Year. I imagine his wife has her hands full if Lez is incapacitated.

I do hope Les is alright. Anyone live near him?

Hi Dean, HID = High Intensity Discharge, the Xenon lights with the blueish output that can be bought quite cheaply from China/Hong Kong on ebay these days. How do your lights work? I visualise "Dip", "Main Beam", and "That'll teach you to dip your lights when I dip mine"!

I think your front end works very well with the Series 1 panel, probably wouldn't look so good with the Series 2.

Hi Jan-hendrik, True, I have the standard alloys - I can never remember whether they're called Monaco or Monte- Carlo, same place so I don't suppose it matters - but I think they are fussy in appearance and very difficult to clean. I think Dean's minimalist alloys are the dog's wotsits but I probably couldn't afford them.

Hi Derek

The centre lamp is sidelights the outer lamp is main beam, so with main beam there are four lamps lit and all six come on with high beam for an alien abduction style light output.
They work extremely well, mainly because there is a good spread of light which i just didn't get from the standard light units.
The alloys, buy the way, were £690 inc tyres and V.A.T Bought through halfords. I got them in the end of summer sale so they were about £200 off! And cheaper than buying new genuine cit ones, (which i wanted to do in the first place) which come without tyres ohmy.gif

Have you got these star wheels?

if so, they are not that hard to clean, I discovered.
I usually have the car washed at a filling station I often go to. Before the car is placed in line for the auto wash machine, the (pretty) girl in attendance sprays the wheels with water and with a simple sponge does a pre-clean. She is very quick about it and the result is very satisfactory, I must say tongue.gif

Yes, they're the ones. No doubt they are easy to clean if you can get a pretty girl to do it but not much chance of that in the UK. My own pretty girl reckons that bending down to clean those would do her back in, and anyway car cleaning (she says) is my job.
