Ecu Error Code Reader And Codes, for common XM ecu's

Hi all,

Here's a file I've had kicking around for a while but had lost it until now. I thought it might be of use to anyone trying to decipher any of the codes read by those Draper Code readers or even the home made ones. There's instructions on how to make your own code reader from some basic components.

All credit for this file goes to Frank Verschuren. I don't know the man personally and have not sought permission to use this file. If Frank reads this and wants it removed just say so and it will be done. If you approve then many thanks for your sterling effort.

Invaluable information from you AGAIN!

Just at the correct time!. I have an ABS fault on my V6 12 valve, and a Turbo boost fault on a newly aquired 1994 M reg 2.0 CT Turbo..

I can now use my Gunsons (I think) fault reader, as I've lost the read out code paper, so didn't know what was what!

Yeah i've done it now, sorry about that, its only after i downloaded another file on steering rack gaitors and openend it with adobe that i realised.

Just made one of the code readers from this excellent file and then discovered it doesn't work on the 2.5TD (as far as I can see).

Anyone know of a similar device (or any device for that matter) that works on the 2.5TD please?

Was playing round with this at the weekend (with the intention of reading/clearing the suspension codes).

I found that I could read the ABS codes just using a bit of wire from the ABS pin to ground with a switch in it as suggested in the guide. The codes were flashed out on the ABS light on the dash. I found that where it says pres for 3-5 seconds I had to do 2 presses for 3-5 seconds for some reason, but I got the codes out, cleared them and then read them again to get the 12, 11 codes as expected when nothing is stored. So easy

However, I could not get the same method to work with the Hydractive codes. It would not flash the suspension light at all. I guess the single wire method does not work for that (can anyone confirm or prove me wrong?).

I could not find an LED anywhere to make the full circuit, but will do so at some point. Has anyone had any success with that on the Hydractive codes?

I didn't try it on the engine codes, so can't say if Roy is right or not yet. I will try to remember to have a go at some point. Does anyone got the codes for the 2.5 engine?

Made my testing circuit with an LED tonight and successfully read the Hydractive codes and the ABS codes (had another couple since I read them before). All works perfectly.

I then started trying the other pins for things like Alarm and Dipping Mirror - I just can't resist playing with a new toy. None of them returned any output except the 'deadlocking' pin which gave me codes 27 and 19. Anyone like to guess what they mean?

I wouldn't mind having a go with the circuit given ,on the ABS ,but couldn't see any ABS codes. Does anybody have the ABS codes ,mainly the codes which show the particular faulty wheel sensor ? regards Tony

I hadn't realised they weren't in Noz's file. The version of the PDF on XM-L does include the ABS and Hydractive codes. It can be found here but you will probably have to be registered on XM-L to be able to download it.

Noz - would you like to update the file in the first post with the other codes in there?
