Somebody tried to sell us one of those once. I'm not sure how keen my mother was but the dealbreaker was when she asked why there were sandbags in the luggage area. biggrin.gif

Yes its the Skoda alright. Haven't seen one for a while now. A friend of mine had one years ago. I think they did one in a fastback/coupe body as well. I had an Estelle and later the Favorit. I loved 'em both. Don't know what it was about them but they have a lot of character. A bit like Xm's I suppose, they get under your skin. You get withdrawal symptoms when you haven't been in it for a while!

Yes, Skoda indeed. Alhough to be honest this is the only one of these I've seen here and it doesn't look in bad condition.
There are many really old motors sill in use but it's not always easy to tell which ones are in use and which are scrap.
Outside the flat here, there is a Lada with non existant sills thats still in use and another Lada that's had a bad smash. Across the road is a 2ltr XM with strut top failure, that's been there for over 6 months to my knowledge.

Scrap cars are an issue here, people have to pay to have them taken away, so they just find somewhere to park them and walk away.

Saw a nice S2 XM yesterday, green of course and had some unusual kind of coat hangers attatched to the front seat headrests, looked genuine parts in chrome. Also noticed an XM with locking wheelnuts, on steel wheels ohmy.gif

Hi All,
Had a couple of these about twenty years ago (where has the time gone.......?) had the coupe also which might I think have been a bit earlier. Crackin' little cars totally reliable if serviced on a fairly regular basis and could be hustled around bends surprisingly quickly. Something like sandbags did help in snow though, when you could find yourself happily going along in a straight line while holding full lock on.......
I think the only peple that used to 'knock' Skodas where those that had never owned one.
Cheers, and a Happy New Year to all
Carl.

Peter, I'm told it's the same as a Renault Dauphine underneath.

But now for something completely different. biggrin.gif

It's a mid 70s Volga, so I'm told. Not surprisingly very heavy on juice which made them unpopular. ohmy.gif

Peter,

It will look like a Renault, as Skoda bought all tool and press from Renault and modified it to produce the Estelle!!!

Hence the Ren 8 being rear engined, and the Skoda too.. I think however, skoda fitted their own engine..

I loved the Estelle too, I used to use one to do a paper round when I was 17, and loved it! It was fun, the front end would be all bouncy and light weight, and all the dial needles would bounce along with the front end! GREAT STUFF!!

That second piccie Ken. That's a crafty one! But it's obviously a Xantia but it's hiding behind some old Russian thing laugh.gif

As if by magic the Volga seems to have re-appeared and so has the Xantia. wink.gif

So here's another Skoda as well..
Note the modified towing bracket on the front of the X@nt.
