Any Feedback please?

I'm tempted by a couple of local cars that seem alot of car for the money, now that this bleedin' club has sent the prices of good used XM's through the roof! tongue.gif

Not personal experience, but my son in law ran a Safrane as a business car for 140,000 miles. He was so impressed with the car that he then bought it from his firm and passed it on to my daughter. It was a top mark (Executive or something like that) 2.2 petrol auto. Not too many problems with it, although he complained that Renault spares were expensive - no surprises there.

The interior was very nice, the leather was softer than that in XMs and the dash layout was very impressive. I drove it on a couple of occasions and it felt very much like an XM with ride quality that was almost as good.

WATCH the Renault Auto boxes!!

They are as bad if not worse then Citroen/Peugeot auto boxes...

Have a look at Ren Lagunas and see how many of them for Spares/Repair need a Gearbox!

Thats all that puts me off. I ALWAYS wanted a Ren 25 which is its predecessor, and would still have an Executive 25 with the leather, but they seem rearer then XM's!!

Good luck

I have a car buying habit which is well documented on the internet in various places, having a private collection of over 100 cars and own a 1993 Safrane RXE 3.0 auto. Its done 52000 miles from new and is mint. We bought it ten years ago with 31000 miles recorded. HOWEVER, beware the auto boxes as mentioned above. The problems are usually related to sensors but are still expensive to repair. It is this auto gearbox that has been the only cause for concern and expense in the last 11 years.

In all other respects, they are very solid cars. Comfy, quiet, smooth and very easy to wash having no rough edges.

Personally, I'd go for a manual car and have few worries about driving anywhere in one.

Thanks for the info.

I'm leaning towards the 2.5 20v - less popular these days due to higher fuel costs - & it has the Volvo 5 cyl engine & G'box AFAIK.

I have read that the (electronic???) dampers as fitted to some are horrendously expensive to replace (I have seen £707 EACH!!!)

Hi

What about a 605 - they had similarily expensive dampers in the top of the range ones. Only 4 on autotrader today - must be getting like XM's. Or alternatively - a little more expensive a 607? They are getting quite cheap especially for the 2.2 diesels. I sort of like them in a strange way.

Cheers

I had a 605 -a SVE-24 & a great car - 200 bhp and the 24v 90 degree PRV V6 engine (as fitted to our XM's too) with a manual box and a standard full stainless exhaust with 3 cats smile.gif . No worries about those electronic dampers - on my 605 they were made by nippon denso and were 100% reliable, typical japanese smile.gif Shame about the 605 subframes that rusted like crazy and the suspension mounts that were made of plasticine and lasted 6 months at most sad.gif That's why I sold on.

Nope, you can't put me off - I like the unpopular French ugly ducklings of the motoring world so a Safrane will be my next car.

Now then, I have unlimited storage space on a military base, so do I keep the XM's?
