Immobiliser, how to turn off

Sorry to ask, everybody, But have tried to do a search cos I'm sure this subject has been covered but can't find it.. Please can anyone tell me why my immobiliser has come on when I put the battery back (headlights flashing, car wont start). And how do I either turn it off or immobilse the immobilser! Thanks for any help anyone can give (would like to use the car!)

There's a series of button pushes on the immobiliser pad that disables it or can put it into 'valet' mode.

I'm presuming you have the immobiliser code itself - if not you're in trouble as removing the battery has probably reset this feature, if it had been set up previously.

The exact button pushes are detailed in the owners manual.

Usually, if the immobilser has previously been deactivated by a past owner, the disturbance
of the battery won't affect the ignition/starter working. It isn't a good idea plugging away trying
numbers as there's a risk of locking yourself out of the ECU for good despite having the
correct code.

How do you normally start the car; does the keypad get used at all and what do the warning
lights and internal buzzer indicate when you try starting?

I'd only try 1111 as a last resort...

Your set up is an earlier version than mine, bearing that in mind I think the following is relevant:-
Recomnnecting the battery has reset the alarm and it has activated hence the flashing headlights. The absence of siren could be due to being switched off at underbonnet keyswitch,faulty or disconnected siren.
Plip should stop the headlights flashing. I don't think your version can be stopped by ignition on and dash button because you may not have the "cancel alarm" button.
With ignition on immobiliser light should be steady red. Code entry is needed to unlock the immobiliser evidenced by red light out and green on. Start the car.

From memory when this has happened to me after a battery re-connection, the answer has been to lock and unlock the car using the PLIP and I think this resets the immobiliser.

I think we're getting confused between alarm and immobiliser here. Two different beasts.

Thank you everyone for your help so far. I normally leave the keypad in "off" mode (attained with the code number and then holding down the d/n button). I haven't altered this but, as mentioned, with the battery reconnected the lights flash and the car wont start although engine turns over. Have re-typed keypad code and held down d/n button to no effect. Also have tried locking and unlocking the doors with the key and no result. The plip idea does seem to ring a bell but unfortunately the plip battery is flat! Any way I can disconnect the immobiliser?! Thanks again for all the help - am determined to do this without calling in an auto electrician

I suggest that you buy a couple of CR2032 batteries and get the Plip working then use this to reset the alarm & immobiliser. Whilst they are separate systems the main ECU operates them both. The starting code is checked in the ECU not the keypad. The immobiliser can be isolated by unplugging the keypad while the engine is running but to do this you have to reset all the systems and start the car.

Ahh, more info.

I may be corrected but I'd disconnect the alarm box totally (it lives under the passenger footwell) until you get your plip working again ? Silver box about 5' x 4' with a single brownish plug.

That might get you mobile again, although you lose central locking temporarily also.
