Hi everybody.
I have broke tree bulbs in less than 1 month, always the cross lamps (medium intensity) I don't think this is normal or causual. I usaly drive by night with 4 hours trip, but i don't think heat should be a problem. Any one can give me some hint? 90 XM 2.0i driving on LPG. |

If it was a fault on the charging circuit it would affect all the lamps, if it is the same one all the time, you either have a batch of faulty bulbs or there must be some excessive vibration causing the problem.

The problem still exist, everything is well fixed, a clean with spray and re-tied but the bulbs still broke out (always the front cross lamps). Any clue about this?

I take it you are referring to the dipped headlight bulbs. They are the ones that get the most use of course, unless you live right out in the countryside. Check that you have almost exactly 14 volts across the battery terminals with the engine running. Much in excess of this could cause bulb (and battery) failure. If the voltage is correct I dont really know, as the only things that normally cause premature failure are excessive voltage and vibration.

I have the same problem Miguel, every few months. I have another one at the moment. I am sure there's a fault but haven't found it yet.

Hi Miguel,
Time to start thinking about an HID conversion! They give MUCH brighter light, use less power (35 Watts each) and are very long life. I mean a proper conversion, not these so-called xenon bulbs. If you're interested ther's a long thread on the forum. Derek -------------------- 1999 3.0V624v Exclusive Black! (RP8362)

Hi Miguel
I had a problem last year with side lights blowing 3-4 in a short period of time.I then went to another shop who sold Phillips bulbs that were a bit more expensive and it has been fine since. Regards Rob -------------------- 1958 BMW Isetta 300 RHD with SMITHS SELECTROSHIFT

Hi Miguel.
A friend of mine was having this very conversation with me the other day. He is convinced that a number of aftermarket bulb suppliers (Predominantly R**g) are selling sub standard items and now looks for a known quality manufacturer. I'm not particularly convinced and have little trouble in this area. You're not by any chance touching the glass with your fingers when you fit them ? This is supposed to shorten their life.
