What's with the suspension???? Dose it not work??? tongue.gif

Hi Charlie

Well done glad you have found an XM at spec and price that suits you. Hope the car turns out well with a little TLC from you. See you have the mandatory tear from the seat belt in the suede of the drivers seat back. Hope you measured and checked that your arm was long enough to put out of the ever open window and reach under the car to reset the suspension height. Mind you knuckles on the tarmac if you try it at any speed.

Regards

Ah...

Welcome charlie,

A fellow XM member on here was trying for that car too.. It looked a nice car but the pictures werent fantastic, however, bearing in mind the wonderfully low milage for one of these it looks a good price for that figure..

I considered the car myself when it was in the hundereds, but did think it would go a bit higer due to its age..

Let us know how she goes, apparently according to the owner, the car rides at normal height, but its when you move the lever to change the height it doesn't do nothing, my utter guess is that it is HOPEFULLY for you just the linkages underneath the car have siezed up, and a bit of WD40ing and levering on some good saftey ramps may well free it all up...

Hi Charlie

It might even be the black corrugated plastic trim strip that surrounds the height knob. On a number of cars the ends are not feed into the guides when the gear lever trim is put back and this locks the height knob at standard ride height.

i know the car got some issues, and i would of paid more for a fault free xm, if there is such a thing rolleyes.gif

but it had everything that i wanted, 2.1, leather, and all the toys and ive got cash left to get it sorted

soooo im crossing me fingers here, im hoping that its a decent car at heart

wasnt really after a project, but i dont mind a bit of work, and then its gonna be an cit that goes and looks well

will keep u all posted with what i find unsure.gif and thanks already for the info cause im probably gonna need more of it wacko.gif

anyways its an excuse to keep my bx a bit longer while the xm gets some attention

cant wait to park them side by side and drool

well i got back to cardiff ok but the car is a bit of a shed

outside it was i expected but inside the interior is knackered

theres switches missing all over, mind u the electric armrest half works!!!

but the leather suede interior is just a mess, holes rips etc to the suede all over

bloke selling it saw me shakin me head and i was getting ready to walk away but then he says look ill throw in the tax as well

and tax is to august next year, so me thinks im lookin at £350 car here

checked the water, or the murky brown sluge that was in there, no bubbles at 90o, checked it three times on the way home and it didnt loose a drop

gear box seemed ok but got a bit lumpy when i got back into traffic in cardiif

cruised home at nervous sixty but it came through the first test in getting from halifax to cardiff

will get it up on ramps at the weekend and start work accordingly

and yes bloke who sold it added that it had been standing since june

FIRST most important job!

GET THAT WATER OUT and a bloody good flush through... The brown sludge will kill your head gasket as quick as you can say HELP!!!

I've seen many a Xantia die due to Brown water.. it clogs the water ways in the head gasket, then water is restricted to the head and the rest, im sure you can guess..

Hi Charlie.

Citroenxm spot on regards the water. I would add though resist the temptation to use a proprietary flushing product. In my experience that stuff itself nearly always b*****s something else up later. If the system is full of crap, spend as long as you need to flushing and reverse flushing it with plain water. When it's all coming out clean, then refill with a good strong antifreeze mix. Remember the bleed points when you refill. Good luck with it.

Mike.

i've got a spare full set of leather interior from a series 2 (thats '95 or later) if yours are that bad. i've got the whole lot - all the seats, the door cards, the rearseat side bits and even the front armrest. They seem to have electrical connections for the heated seats also, but i've not tried them out. They do not have any holes or rips!

currently they are making for very comfy seats in my conservatory... in the style of top gear.

in my exclusive i've got the suede / alcantara which on recollection i prefer hence the leather set is spare.

good luck with the project.. sorry, the car. Like many here i also graduated from a bx to the xm. But be warned, put them side by side, sit in them both and you will wonder why on earth you've been driving a bx for so long!

gav

yes they are that bad, its the whole interior really, ill try and get some pics up when im home and it isnt dark

its a shame really cause like you id think the leather suede mix is cool.gif cool.gif

but leather would be good so ive pm you about your set

i have the bx and xm parked nose to nose outside me house

and stood in the rain this morning before i went to work, looking at both of them wub.gif wub.gif

and not sure how u can compare them anyway cause their two different cars made for two different markets

the xm is bound to trounce the bx in comfort, goodies etc

but for me the bx appeal is it has a style all of its own, a real peoples car!!!

i just thank citroen for making them

and of course the 2cv

and then h van

and the ds

etc etc
