Hi all

I have just bought a mk1 Ir plip from eBay because it is like new with all its stickers on and for a couple of quid it would be handy just to have the case, but can i reprogram it to work with my receiver and have two working plips or is this just not possible?

Thanks Dean

Hi Dean

I think it depends on the build version of both your new Mk1 plip and also your existing receiver. The internal design of the Mk1 plips changed at least 3 times while the cars were in production/spares supported by Citroen. These changes were not recorded with different Citroen part numbers. The first version is a single plip fixed set that can only be replaced and not altered or added to. The second version is hard wired to a particular code and though it was not intended these I believe can be altered to a different code with some considerable effort. The final version was used fairly universally through the PSA range, supports two plips and the reciever is capable of being taught the code of a new plip.

Regards

XMexc

lucky you dean, I never got a second plip with my Presteige, only one plip but two normal keys.

Thanks xmexec for the rundown on plip types, anyone got any photos of the different types or other info that would enable me to work out which type I have.

Yes DrTim i think they are, may be the same colour but i cant see that in your avatar.
One question though, do you ever wish you got the turbo? i see you have a mk2 turbo, but doesn't your mk1 feel sluggish in comparison?

dean, yes the mk1 is "sluggish" in comparison to the s2 turbo car, however the non-turbo is good enough and contributes to the chilled out vibe I love about the car.
I do find my self pulling out in the turbo where I would wait in the non-turbo, thats about it.

I thought there was only one shade of maroon/red fior XM's?

Hi DrTim

There is at least two shades because both of mine are a totally different, but that could be that 1 is metallic and the other is a flat colour.
I really want a turbo, but when i got mine i couldn't really afford the insurance, and now i can, the prestige is in such a good condition i couldn't bare to part with it, and i dont have room for two cars sad.gif .
By the way i will get that stereo posted today, haven't had the time so far.
