Hi Dean,

QUOTE
I get no end of piss taking at work for being the "Citroen boy"
or sh*troen as they call it, In fact my mates missus has got me a huge sh*troen poster for Christmas biggrin.gif (well you have to laugh) but they all admit that they want an xm!

I thought that might strike a chord. You're not alone - I get all the same stuff - over and over again. Funny though - there's never any shortage of passengers.

You're absolutely right about the forum - I'm sure it (and the others) have played a very significant part in the revival of interest in the XM. I remember what a struggle it was trying to run one before the forums appeared - and that was when the XM was a current model with a lot more of them around.

I expect there'll be a massive growth in collaborative working like this in the next few years. It's probably the quality and volume of content on the site that'll bring new users here - and one of the nicest things about coming to Club-XM is you can be sure of a warm welcome. That's something very special.

Steve,

QUOTE
With the LPG idea I was thinking along the lines of a tank to go under the floor where the spare goes and keep a clean spare wheel in the boot. You're still losing space but you can juggle things around to some extent or even leave the spare at home for short journeys. I was hoping to get a nice top spec XM and fit the LPG for around the 2K mark, it may be possible if I get a kit at a good price, self fit it then have it certified.

I'm sure the tank under the floor is the way to go - as you say it gives you more flexibility. Sounds like you're a bit uncomfortable at the thought of driving without a spare too.

I'm not up to date with the LPG savings - is it around 50% less than petrol? (7p per mile with a V6?) Plus the reduction in road tax and the environmental and other benefits. It is very tempting isn't it.

Have you had a look at the Yahoo group / list for LPG conversions?

Regrettably that is illegal except at a Rally or similar. Let's go for the windscreen stickers. Anyone got the contacts?

Hi Roy/Peter/Dean

Currently LPG seems around 45p a litre from the local garages, whereas petrol's about 103 and diesel 106!

In the 2.5 I currently run 50% veg and 50% bio that I buy locally at about 96p per litre. Not a massive saving but useful. However veg oil has within a short time gone from around £1.70 for 3 litres to £2.29.

I've had diesels for a long time now (I driven them almost daily for 20 years) maybe a change over to a smooth V6 will make a nice change.

I'm not the luckiest person so you could be that if I leave the spare at home I'd have a blow out, shredded tyre, etc.

I get around the whole Citroen thing before others by mocking it first, however they all know I wouldn't swap my XM for anything bland.

Steve.

Hi Steve

For guaranteed reliability carry a full set of spares, I have always found that parts I buy on spec, rarely or never get used and that you will only have a puncture if you are not carrying a spare! mad.gif

Hi all

There is a place right opposite work that does all our signage for the vans, site boards etc and they also do graphics for cars. You know the ones, 1ltr saxos with a dragon or flames down the side. But they also do stickers for the rear screens, they supply them for the RS owners club, I.O.W Demon cars etc etc, We are quite friendly and could get a good price, getting them printed would not be a problem, and could be done quite cheaply, but they would have to be sold to cover the small cost of postage and production , how many of you would want one though?
Is there anyone who works at a printers or sign writers who could get them at cost?
At least if all who were members had one it would really be good advertising for the forum.

Hi Roy.

Are you sure about the reduction in road tax ? I enquired with DVLA recently, as we're LPGing a Landy and they said there is no change in tax for vehicles not subject to the modern variable tax rates. To my mind that means about year 2000 backwards, fitting LPG makes no odds to the tax due.

Mike.

I might even go to the extent of buying 10 and stick them on cars (or give them to the owners). The more members, the more hints and tips!

I have been looking on the net and there are quite a number of firms printing window stickers at quite a reasonable price if you want 500! They work out at about 10-12p each. It would mean agreeing on a design and someone stomping up about a hundred pounds to have them set up and printed. If there were enough of you interested it might be viable. I am sure most of us would be prepared to pay say 50p for a one off, or less for more, if you see what I mean. Any takers?

Er..... no, sorry! (Shouldn't believe everything I read on the net.)

I just saw it mentioned here - Greenfuel.

Mackay1

Yeah the reduction of tax is for NEW cars so we try and get tempted to dispose of our older dirty cars!

My V6 on gas would be NO GOOD with an under floor mounted tank, I just wouldn't get enough range from it, being a bit rural up here, I need the 80 ltr tank for the 320 mile range I get from it, and thats from a basic single point injection system.. I'm going to look for a multi point injection kit for the 24v S1, so that I'll get a better MPG, NO spit back explosions and a BIG smile on my face..

Tax remains the same as the age of the car goes against that, but anyhow, whats 99 quid every 6 months when your dooing about 20000 miles a year on 45p a litre!!!

I read somewhere that more carbon is released in the manufacture of a car than it releases in fuel consumption over its average life. If true it makes a nonsense of getting rid of older cars to save the planet. We should be doing the opposite.

But that would not be fair to the shareholders of all the lovely friendly car manufacturing companies. How can we expect them to survive if we do not regularly dispose of our plus 5 year old cars that still run well and buy new ones with all that lovely recyclable (read green friendly) plastic, metal and rubber in them.

Nasty people we are thinking that we should harm the planet by keeping those disgusting old cars on the roads!

And besides, one must keep up with the Smythe-Joneses at number 27 because I saw she got a new AUDI SUV the other day and you expect me to run the offspring to school in a 10 year old Citroen XM? How will I live with the shame?
