After my experiences with Pilot HID (broken ballast - sent for repair but still no return and no refund - 4 months now. I've kinda given up e-mailing them as I get no responses now). I cannot recommend them.

I've just received a cheap Chinese kit for £39. Pay in dollars through paypal as the pound is very strong at present. Quality seems as good as the Pilot kit.

So you bought from US ebay specifying UK as destination, and postage cost was same as for US, total being $79 or £39?

The outfit that sold me my HID's from China also has a US sales outlet which can be found at www.mydepots.com. Might be of interest while the UK pound is strong.

Yep.
Seller states in text that shipping is the same worldwide & it is. doesn't do discounts for more than 1 kit though - at this price I'm not surprised - his margins must be the lowest on the market.

been considering the HID upgrade on the S1 V6 for a while, just need to bypass the dim-dip unit....

but then there's no headlight washer on the car so not good from the legal POV - so considering fitting a dual washer jet unto the nose cone under each headlight unit to retro-fit something to fill that purpose - any thoughts?

S2 bumper probably projects slightly further in front to allow fit for the washers, no doubt they could be retro-fitted onto the S1 without some mods etc.

regards
Dave

Hi Dave

Retro fitting headlight washers is probably not worth the effort. The Citroen bits are exspensive new and hard to come by secondhand. They are also not very reliable. Do not try to run them off the same tank as the main washers as they have a habit of sticking open and emptying the tank. Fitted Mk2's have a separate tank in the drivers side wing. All the Mk2 SX's were built without headlamp washers and so were many of the later VSX's.

was more thinking of a standard 2-port windscreen jet and run back to an extra tank.

Doesn't look too simple to retro-fit the Cit washers into an S1 bumper and the problems with them sticking open and shedding the top cover makes that effort hardly worth it.

regards
Dave

I can confirm that Citroen appear to have no interest in supplying parts for the headlamp washers as they are not only unavailable at the moment, but they do no longer quote a price for them. Maybe some supplies will come through eventually if you leave them on Back Order but don't bank on it.

I've bought a set of these HID Conversion kits from diane-parts on ebay, total including shipping came to £39 odd delivered to the UK.

However during the purchase stage nowhere was i asked which bulbs i required, when paying by palpal in the instructions to seller box i requested the H1 type bulbs there, but haven't had any confirmation of what type of bulb has been shipped.

Will post some before and after pictures to let people see the difference.

Regards

David.

Hi David

As well as the bulb type you need to specify the colour temperature (Most of us have gone for 4300K White or 6000K Blueish White).

I didn't specify a colour because i think 6000 will do for me. I'm hoping to partially retire the XM to a toy car soon so won't be using it much at night time.

Even so, the 6000's should be much better then the standard lights on the XM though right?

David.

David,

unimaginably so. you will not believe such a difference is possible.

having had the nose cone grill get broken recently from a flying something, i've now opted to fit the headlight protectors i've had lying around.
with the extra build up of dirt this would have been positively suicidal without HID lights.
