Does anyone know how to re-programme a plip please?

Mine decided not to work a couple of weeks back, which I assumed to be down to weak batteries. Having replaced the same the plip appears to function (the led comes on), but the car doesn't recognise it. This is not a car electrical issue because I have a spare plip for the same car which works fine.

Any thoughts appreciated.

The PCB of the plip is notorious for developing dry joints. If you have good eye sight, or if not with a magnifying glass, have a good look at the circuit board for detached components, usually only at one end. A steady hand and small tipped soldering iron is needed to facilitate any repairs.

Hi Puff

The Mk2 plip can also get out of sync and refuse to work as it uses a rolling code so transmits altenating infomation for repeated presses on the same key which the receiver checks for. Code pairs are also unique to each plip so the receiver is looking for different information from each plip so one plip working does not prove the other one is good. There are 4.3 million code pairs available and the receiver will only work with the 4 it is preprogrammed with. I have not yet found anyone who can read the codes or reprogramme the plips.
I tend to leave poking around the insides of the plip with a soldering iron as a last resort. You need a good bench magnifying glass to examine the circuit board and first it is worth cleaning off any grot or muck that seems to get inside some plips.
There are a number of Plip entries on here and one of them lists the resync check sequence.

Thanks to everyone for their help on this.

I've tried the re-sync procedure, but with no effect. The plip does seem to be working (the LED operates), but clearly not to the extent of sending a signal. Before performing surgery on the thing does anyone please have any other suggestions? I am not very good with a soldering iron!

Cheers

Hi Puff,

"I am not very good with a soldering iron".

You'd best stay out of the plip then!

Have you got a reciever that covers 433 mhz or do you know a radio ham? The 70cm band covers this frequency. You should be able to hear the data stream from the plip about this frequency if it is working. You will have to tune very slowly as it has a very narrow bandwidth.

Hi Puff,

My plip wouldn't work either when I bought my car and I had to lock it by key, but I think I'm right in saying the alarm is disabled when key locked.
My plip was totally u/s so I fitted a third party central locking system which works perfectly and I have two plips.

I put the details onto the self help files but as I'm not sure how to make a link from here you'll have to go and look tongue.gif

Cheers.

I can reprogram RF plip (those plip which is coming with the normal centrallocking + deadlocking/alarm). With IR plip (s2 type) user can add an other IR plip, if he have a working one. (theoretically, i never tried, because i saw only RF plip here)

Hi pH03N1xM

Reprogramming XM RF plips?
How do you do it?
Is the information available?
