Hi XMexc,

I thought this info was too valuable to languish in a general section so I moved it here to keep it for posterity. Hope you don't mind.

Cheers

Hi Noz

Good idea to move it. I will see if I can find a bit more to add to it.

Regards

XMexc

Go directely to page 6

"In 1998, Citroën changed the design of the rear brakes fitted to both the XM V6
saloon and the 2.5 diesel saloon, manufactured from about May 1997...
...The change involved increasing the size of the disc from 224mm to 232mm, but still using the standard swinging arm fitted with the
standard caliper. This means that the caliper remains mounted at the same radius from the disc centre, but the disc projects further into the mouth of the caliper...
...Unfortunately, most aftermarket brake suppliers took one look at the backing plate dimensions and listed the standard pad as the equivalent in their catalogues...
...Ferodo was more careful, and made sure that its replacement pads are the correct size to provide full braking effectiveness."

"The front brakes use the Bendix single piston
floating caliper set up which you are sure to
have come across before. The rear brakes are
the same simple double piston set up that
Citroën has been using since at least 1975"

QUOTE (xmexclusive @ Apr 6 2007, 22:18 PM)

Rear Brakes - Cars and Estates have very different sizes of brakes and calipers. As far as I am aware all the disks are solid. As with the front brakes the axle and caliper mounts are dimensionally the same so unsafe combinations are again possible.

The larger rear calipers wont fit on a car with smaller rear calipers as the bolt holes are further apart of a larger rear caliper, I know, I tried it a few months ago when I changed the front calipers back to smaller ones.

(Before you ask why, I ordered wrong size disks.......)

Has anyone measured these disks? This info would be most useful. DIAMETER IN MM [ MILLIMETERS], THICKNESS IN MM.

Well, Blow me down. Amazing how things come round full circle. It was me who had all the grief regarding the back disks that led to me getting Noz to set up the Late 3.0L V6 and 2.5 topic group. The very first article I wrote was on the brakes. Check it out for yourselves here, http://club-xm.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=856

nothing like a bit of Plagiarism, and giving credit where its due.
