Hi all, sorry admin if this is in the wrong place..
I bit of an unusual one this. The diesel XM accuired recently drove home WONDERFULLY and smoothly, however the speedo wasn't working.. Day after arrival home and investigating the problem, it was the top half of the speedo cable that had broke, anyway, new cable purchased, new small issue, the speed sensor that sits between the two halfs and to be left out as the two ends were the same, so I took it out and joind the two halfs together.. But now I'm finding, the first two miles or so the suspension is wonderfully soft, then after that it seems to go into hard mode, is this coincidental with removing the speed sensor, or does Hydractive need the sensor for ride softness? Its a H4 system being a 93 car.. Your thoughts anyone if any? The car also being DERV DOES NOT have a trip computer fitted either so I didn't really see the point of having the sensor fitted in the first place.. Hi Citroen xm
Yes removing the speed sensor has caused this problem, the suspension ecu uses it coupled with break pressure sensor, steering sensor etc etc to determine when to switch to hard mode. Regard dean -------------------- 92 xm 20i prestige auto (modified)R.P 5678

Dean,
Ok, I shall have to make an adapter to mate the New cable to the sensor, as they are both "Female" ends with no coupling.. No problem, shall get it done and report back. Thanks Rgds citroenxm -------------------- 1993 K Reg 3.0 V6 12 Valve Auto (Green) LPG S1.5 SORNd

thats what was causing the back end of my 24v to fly up into mid air when i was braking mate.
After i replaced the cable, it was much better going round corners, it didn't throw the back up under braking any more, it made it a completely different car, also my trip computer started working. David. -------------------- 1990 V6 SEi Auto - breaking for spares.

Ok,
Putting my mind into suspension mode this morning I watched and felt all the things that went on with the ride into work this morning.. If I get into the car and close the door THEN start the car in the normal way then the suspension will work as normal all day long... however, if I start the car with the door open or before I get in (I have to open a gate before I can get out) then the car goes into hard mode. I have a lift from the same place as mine, sometimes she opens the gate for me... Then when any of the doors are opened with the engine running she (car) switches into hard mode and stays in hard mode! I thought this only suffered on early G to J reg cars really.. What am I looking at for a guess? The main ECU (in which I have a spare) or an electrovalve under the car? The speed sensor has made no difference.. I had a 93 with hard ride issues. I cured it the easy way by taking apart the speed sensor cable, in my case this was a white connector.
Once I had taken this apart the only way to get the car into hard mode was when accelerating briskly. All other times it was in soft mode. There was/is a short document somwhere called 'a level three diagnostic' - for mk1 xms only. You should be able to do the radio buzz test on a mk1 car quite easily.
