Hi all

In the middle of re-building my cylinder head, and although i shouldn't be surprised, the specified length of my valves in Haynes, is less than their actual length, so either Haynes is wrong ohmy.gif (Which they never are laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif ) or my valves are growing rolleyes.gif . Has anyone else encountered this? its just i only use Haynes for measurements like this, and if they are wrong about this very important info, are they wrong about lobe sizes, valve clearances/stem dia etc etc? any idea's???

Hi Dean.

Haynes and accuracy ----- fish and bicycle ----- politician and honesty etc, etc. Unless you've had very drastic surgery to the head and deeply cut seats, and you're using the original valves, I wouldn't worry. I reckon the tappets will take care of any likely variation.

Mike.

Thanks Mike, i only really stripped it to put new valve stem seals in and make sure the valves were seating properly and grind them in lightly, decarbonise and polish the chambers etc etc but i measured everything to see how worn or not it was ,like you do, and found this valve measurement problem, all i need to be 100% sure of is the valve clearances. Haynes says it should be .20mm and .40mm +/-.05 does anyone know if this is right.

Hi Dean

Russek gives:

valve clearance (engine cold):
4 - cyl engines - inlet valves: 0.15 - 0.25 mm
- exhaust valves 0.35 - 0.45 mm

Regards
