Hi all.

OK, I know it's the wrong forum, but I can't think of a nicer bunch of folks to ask and I've no doubt the issue crops up on our XMs -------

Daughter has new toy, Pug 306 1999 and the airbag lamp is on full time. As far as I can see, it's never been crashed or tampered with --- so ---- any ideas please ??

Mike.

Hi

My 1998 306 XSi used to do this all the time. Faulty connection under the drivers seat where the airbag movement sensor is. My indy just used to reach under and tighten it up but I never felt brave enough to do this. I hate messing with airbags!

Cheers

Or just drive a series one and that problem never occurs.

Yours helpfully

Hi John

I must not have learnt from my mistakes. My XM has drivers, passenger and side airbags. Plus when I move the seat after the Missus has driven, the airbag warning light aways comes on the first time out start but not after that. Just a usual XM excentricity.

Hi all.

Thanks for the input so far. Will have a gander under the seat -- I think I've read in the XM book that you are supposed to disconnect the battery and give it a few minutes before firkling about with the bags or seat belts. An iffy connection sounds a fair bet. Funnily enough air bags are one of the items on the XMs I've had (so fitted) that I've never had any issues with at all. Will report back either way.
John --- I think she might notice if I convert it to an earlier spec !!!!!!!!!
As an aside, it's one of the very last fitted with the late BX turbo engine, so no HDi nasties, but it's an interesting comparison with the 2.5. That extra half litre doesn't half make a difference, notwithstanding the substantial extra weight of the XM! Oh well, off for a grovel.

Mike.

Mike

Gald that was it. Nice easy fix.

I had a ZX with the same engine and I think that since they were so light (like the 306) it went really well. My Honda Accord cdti doesn't seem much quicker except there is very little off boost lethargy on the honda.

I hope your daughter likes it. The 306 was one of the best cars I ever had and the ZX TD the most reliable (6 years and 80K miles and nothing but routine servicing).
The XUD 1.9s seem fairly bombproof.

Cheers

Hi Tony.

Thanks for your help. Daughter has deliberately 'traded down' from a 307 HDi. Been very put off by the various feedbacks she's had about the frighteningly expensive repairs to the HDi system if there is any issue with the main pump. On the last HDi she had, the lift pump went and that was over £100 by itself. Apparently if you get grief with the main pump you're looking at a four figure bill. Mentioned all this to my usual MOT place (who also do repairs and servicing) and they said they now refuse to do any work connected with the fuel system, including changing the filter, on PSA HDis, so there must be some currency in the stories. Good old mechanical injection !!!!!!

Mike.
