I have just put my 2.1 TD VSX estate back together after replacing the head gasket. It went like a train for about 10 miles then suddenly the power dropped off and it feels as though there is no turbo boost, I opened the bonnet expecting to find a pipe off but I cant see anything wrong. The engine sounds very nice and there is no water loss or pressure in the cooling system, I am just hoping that nothing has happened to the turbo, I dont think I can face taking the head off again.

Peter,
Any sign of the engine management light? Does the light come on with the ignition and go off after the engine has started? Cheers noz -------------------- '10 '59' C5 2.0 HDi Exclusive Tourer Metallic Grey

Hi Noz thanks,
I thought you might come to my rescue. believe it or not mine doesn't have electronic management, it is Jan '96 must be one of the very last with a fully mechanical fuel pump. I breathed a sigh of relief this morning when I detached the pipe from the inlet manifold and felt a healthy blast of air when I revved the engine, the cause of the problem became apparent when I got to the main road and booted it,a loud whooshing sound was heard from under the bonnet, although I had not previously been able to find any loose hoses. I have come to the conclusion that the turbo output hose has come adrift, it is only sealed by an "O" ring and there is a lug on the pipe that should have a bolt through it into the manifold, and guess who left it out, I only hope that I can still get to it. Meanwhile, my heater has packed up, niether the fan or the temperature regulator work and it is stuck on cold, I think it must be a supply failure to the control module, or the module itself. As it's stuck on cold I will have to take the motor out and move the flap temporarly into the hot position. Any suggestions? Peter.N. -------------------- Used to have:

Peter,
Well, you learn something new every day. Glad to hear the lack of power turned out to be such a 'simple' problem. I had something similar in that the hose carrying the high pressure air from the intercooler to the inlet manifold had burst. But it had burst on the underside where it couldn't be seen. Took me a little while to find the problem meanwhile sweating at the possibilities. The chances of being able to get the turbo out of the 2.5 without major dismantling are nil to zero. As for the climate control, it could be a number of things. Can I take it you have measured the feed to the flap motor with a multimeter and got nothing? I'll look in the S2 wiring diagrams when I get home towards the end of the week to see if there's a circuit for the climate control. Can you remind me of the RP(orga) number? Noz
I havn't checked for voltage on the motor as the blower stopped working at the same time, so thought it probably had a common cause. I dont think it likely that the supply to the blower is missing, more probable the supply to the climate control module, I could be wrong of course and both the flap motor and blower failed similtainiously, I will check for volts tomorrow. I have had these motors fail before, I have a spare blower in the workshop, a couple of heavy PNP transistors are what is usually required. My turbo is impossible to get out without either removing the head or engine, based on my experience of doing the gasket I think the latter might be easier! Where do I find this number you want? Noz
I have sorted it now, for the benifit of anyone else with this problem, the lack of turbo was due to the fact that I had left the bolt off the turbo outlet pipe and the pressure was pushing it out. The heater problem was due to a corroded 30A fuse holder in the box at the front of the air cleaner. While I was fixing this another wire came adrift from the cold start relay, also corroded, I'm glad I found that or it wouldn't have started tommorrow, and as a bonus the ABS now works! must also have been something to do with that fuse box.
