I have decided my thermostat is stuck closed and needs replacing. I can't see any obvious way of getting at it. Can anyone advise me whether to attack it from above or below or perhaps both. I am assuming it is behind the engine mount and alongside the waterpump with the mounting bolts hidden under the engine mount. Tia, Ernie

So yes, you will have to remove the top mount, which is not that difficult. Fortunately you should be able to do the job without loosening the drive belt.

Must be something either on this forum or my website that clobbers the linking of images.

Anyway, plough through this and you will see plenty of pics

tongue.gif Hi Craig,

That's a great collection of photos that you have there!

I can't see any problem with the job of replacing the thermostat; Do you know if there is an aftermarket one suitable? I will have a good look around before I chase up a genuine one!!

G'Day Dean,
if you are to park your car in this manner you will need some containers for the liquids involved. We in the southern hemisphere have gravity in our favour and most of our cars operate in this mode!! I think Craig must have manipulated his photo a bit to make it a bit more acceptable to you Northerners!

Thanks All, Ernie horrid1

smile.gif Hi all,
I have now sorted my problem!

To access the thermostat, I took the weight of the motor on a jack, and removed the computer and box,the radiator header tank, and the engine mount.

I found that the mount had broken apart!! and that the thermostat had a small piece of scunge blocking the air bleed hole, which was not allowing the warming water to bleed through and therefor not reaching the temperature required to open the valve and thus causing a pressure buildup which then blew (blowed?-- did blow?) back through the header tank.

Thanks for your help, Ernie. mellow.gif
