Hi all,

I am currently educating myself on the 2.5 air con system.

Does the compressor only start working when the system is correctly full of gas ?

i.e will the compressor not work when the system requires gas ?

Cheers,

Mark.

Mark,

Yes your assumption is correct, the compressor will not run if there is insufficient gas for most normal aircon systems.

Look at this link, it is the site of an aircon specialist in Kent but he has gone to a lot of trouble to provide tons of information.

Good luck

Hi Mark

When the gas pressure drops below a predetermined level a sensor cuts off the electric supply to the compressor. The clutch then does not engage so the belt and pully rotate but the centre drive stays stationary. It is difficult to view this on a 2.5 with aircon because of the compressor is buried down by the front subframe. As a first step check that electric supply to the compressor (white 2 pin plug) is still connected. If it is not then most likely the compressor is dead. If this is ok then regassing is worth trying.

Regards
