Can anyone tell me where I can locate the paint colour code on my 1993 XM? looked in all the usual places but can't see any markings, the colour is silver, at least to me thats what it is although I'm sure Citroen will have another name on it.
I've been told that within the next few weeks only water based paints will be available here in Ireland as all cellulose is being discontinued and you need special equipment to spray water based so it will have to be done in a specialist painters. I need to get some touch up done before then so I need to get the colour right. |

Hi XMowner
The usual place on the earlier XM's for marking the paint colour is on the chassis in the engine compartment just behind the passenger side headlamp. Five painted letters about 30mm high. The first 3 letters give the paint code, the last 2 indicate if it is a car or an estate. Examples are: EWP - Polar white ECC - Pale ivory beige EPK - Stratos blue EMV - Fijian blue ENC - Admiral blue EPG - Midnight blue EKS - Magenta ETW - Mercury EDQ - Zephyr ECZ - Sable ETK - Tempest EYC - Quartz ERZ - Silver moss KLS - Astral blue ENU - Sapphire blue superlustre EPG - Midnight blue ESY - Forest green ERY - Emerald EKL - Maple red EEB - Bronze EXY - Black superlustre Hope yours is in the list as that is all I can lay my hands on now. My S2 is 'Vega Green', would try and locate the paint code for you, but its currently on some Tescos expidition I believe, will check later when it gets back.
Just out of interest, where abouts in Ireland are you Xmowner? Might be a few places up north could do your paint for you if you get stuck. /EDIT: Ignore me, its ERY which makes it Emerald, I could have sworn I thought it was 'Vert vega' last time. Theres two other letters at the end, but I can't see what they are without pulling cables out of the way... Had a look this evening and found the code under the wiring behind the the passenger side headlamp. The code was EYCcR so I guess its Quartz or Gris (Grey)Quartz Metallic (http://www.tramontana.co.hu/citroen/body/care.php), will let you know if it ends up multicoloured!

Hi Charlie
Took the list I put up from the Citroen XM Mk 2 maintenance manual which was the easiest reference I had to hand. Interesting that the colours are general to other Citroen cars though it seems they alter the actual name a little over time. The final two letters in the paint code are either CR (car) or MR (estate) though why they need this bit of information put on after the body shell is built and painted is beyond me.
