Pump, injector pipes from pump to injectors and of course the injectors....
I think all what happens is when you enter the code into the keypad it just puts a voltage to the Stop solinoid above the injector pipes on the pump... but Im not certain... Rgds Paul -------------------- 1993 K Reg 3.0 V6 12 Valve Auto (Green) LPG S1.5 SORNd

Hi Peter. Pure nostalgia reading that. Over time we've run a lot of CFs with the world's worst diesel (Opel). Horrible to start, work on, cams made of cheese, gutless, etc.etc.. B****y things always used to smoke for the MOT test and it became a standing joke with the MOT guy that they would hardly stagger up the ramp after we'd turned the pump down to stop them smoking. So -- turn pump down, pass test, turn pump back up to go home. Job done ! Mike. -------------------- XM 2.5VSX Estate RP 7185

Hi Mike
I don't think you were the only ones. My CF had a 4/108 engine and about 100db noise level, I used to buy scrap ones for the engine and box for car conversions. they also did one with a 4/154 and a TK gearbox. Peter. -------------------- Used to have:

Hi All,
The Epic fuel pump on my 2.1td started dripping fuel, having removed it I realised that there was what looked like a sealant smeared all round the joint between the two halves. From the notes written on the scuttle in black felt tip, it looks as though the Epic was changed at 70,000 miles by someone called C&P and it has now done 150,000. As a temporary fix I have cleaned it and sealed with Standard Araldite, I suspect it will be off again soon to be re-sealed with Araldite 2014-1! Whilst I had the bits off the engine I also found that some idiot had used a standard socket on No.1 injector and mangled the wire to the sensor. I have made a temporary repair to this but suspect I will need to replace it soon. The sensor appears to be held on to the injector body with two v-small torx head screws, is it possible to change sensors or do you have to change the injector/sensor assembly as a unit? Does anybody know of a secondhand Epic pump going cheap? I am not sure if this is the right place to post this message, but it seems better to keep all Epic posts together, rather than start a new topic. Cheers, Kit |

Hi Kit,
I've only just seen your post - must have missed it first time round. Regarding leakage from the EPIC pump in my experience it is not the main body joint which leaks. It comes from the two solenoids mounted on top of the pump and possibly also from the two solenoids on the end. These solenoids are clamped to the pump body and sealed with O rings (2 rings per solenoid apart from the fuel shut off which only has one). Over time these O rings harden and no longer seal properly - hence the leakage. They can be replaced with the pump still in place but it is fiddly and extreme care must be taken to ensure that no dirt enters the pump. Thoroughly clean the pump exterior before attempting any dismantling. You can buy replacement seals from a 'cooperative' diesel specialist ( most of them are a bit 'sniffy' about supplying joe public). I can recommend Darwen Diesels (contact David Prescott www.darwendiesels.com ) who supplied me with an EPIC full overhaul seal kit (Part no 9109-750) for around £25. I have attached the exploded parts diagram for the EPIC pump. Regarding the No 1 injector with the needle lift sensor I think the sensor coil is built right into the injector body and the two Torx head screws simply clamp the two wires going to the coil. As long as you have been able to remake the two wire connections adequately and can measure a coil resistance of about 100 to 120 ohms the sensor should be OK. 2.1TD EPIC pumps occasionally surface on ebay and I have seen two which sold in the price range £80 - 100. Of course the 2.1TD EPIC pump was fitted to several other PSA vehicle besides the XM eg the Xantia, Peugeot 406 and 605 and possibly others. There always seems to be plenty of diesel Peugeot 406's being offered by dismantlers on ebay. One which I have happily used for 2.1TD parts is 'rkmautomotive' - have a look at what they are currently offering on ebay and send them a question I hope this helps.
