I've done this, not difficult a job and will realistically take you a weekend to complete, have you got a bosch pump and ancilliaries to swap over ? finding these will be the most difficult part of the job...

My car isn't as quick off the mark as it used to be with the epic pump (probably need to tweak the fuelling) but at least I know it will run now. top speed seems the same (dunno, 50mph limit on most Norwegian roads and HEAVY speeding fines), economy too and it will still tow my house should I want it to wink.gif

Colin.P (bosch pump is quieter too)

Hi Swadger25,

Attached is a drawing showing the gaskets in an 'exploded' EPIC pump which I think I copied from the French 'Planete Citroen' website. I recall there was a lot of discussion about the EPIC pump in their forum (in French of course). You can get translations of a sort using Google if you are keen.

Hi swadger25,

In addition here is a comprehensive article covering the operation of diesel systems and pumps (including EPIC) which might be of use to you.

Hi Colin

This is only addressed to you, no one else should read it.

At the rear of the pump, just above the two top injector pipes there is a screw, which should have a seal on it (if it hasn't already been tampered with) slacken the locknut and screw it in to increase the fuel, its quite sensitive so dont do it more than half a turn at a time, if you are getting black smoke or your engine starts to disintegrate - turn it back a bit.

Peter.

If my engine starts to disintegrate ? Thanks Peter, I'll give it a go - I could do with a project to while away the cold, winter evenings wink.gif tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Is it just the fueling that needs playing with to get better performance ? aren't the pumps limited in some way to keep the revs lower than necessary ? how about the static timing ?

All input welcome smile.gif

Cheers, Colin.P

No, you don't need to adjust anything else. Yes, the revs are limited and its far better to keep them that way. The faster a diesel revs, the less efficient it becomes (look at the torque curve) maximum efficiency is obtained at around 2000 rpm from then up a linear increase in fuel injected results in a decreasing torque figure, the only reason that the BHP goes up is that the revs are increasing at a greater rate than the torque is dropping off. The CX use to produce 120 bhp at 3600 rpm! No benifit will be gained by altering the timing.

Any increase in fuel will automatically result in an increase of turbo boost until it reaches its maximum - then it will start to smoke. You can increase the turbo pressure but I wouldn't advise it unless you like changing head gaskets. unsure.gif
