Hi Colin

Went and recovered the glow plug relay and the accelerator potentiometer from the 96P car today. Was very surprised to find the pot was made by Bosch and looks identical to the 2.5 one. I will try to find a 2.5 one and check the part code. I checked the rest of the fuel system while getting the bits, ECU and pump were marked Lucas. If you want me to do any checks or tests on the parts then let me know. Otherwise if you give me an address I will send them on to you.

Regards

XMexc

Hi XMexc, You're an absolute star, a gentleman and a scholar ! biggrin.gif My throttle pot is also made by Bosch so It's got to be the same item..

No need to do any checks I don't think, it'll be good to do a swap with these items an (hopefully) eliminate them from my list of suspects.

My address is: Austbøvegen 4
4100 Jørpeland
Norway

Do you have paypal ? let me know what you want and I'll get it to you straight away biggrin.gif

Best wishes, Colin.P

Hi Colin

Found a 2.5 throttle pot this evening to compare the part numbers and can confirm that they are identical with the 2.1 one I got for you. This raises the question about cruise control on a 2.1 with electronic injection. I will have to go back to the scrap yard to see if the wiring is insalled just like a 2.5 VSX.

Regards

John

I had an engine from a 'P' reg 2.1 with EPIC pump and that had the push switch on the indicator stalk for the MPG computer.

Hi John, cruise control ? getting excited now biggrin.gif don't think mine would have the wiring though as mine was originally a poverty spec Norwegian model that I'm gradually bringing up to the standard that I want. Should you go back to the yard again, any chance you could relieve the car of the various sensors for water, fuel and air temp ?

I'd be only too happy to pay for the parts AND your time biggrin.gif

Best wishes, Colin.P

Hi Colin

Look at the 2.5 cruise conversion file I put up in the self help. Then lever out the switch blank by the alarm and see if the yellow plug is there wired and waiting. If it is then drop the bottom half of the steering column cover (5 screws) and see if the brown plug and wiring are cable tied to the underside of the column. It was the fact that after I got the throttle pot from the 2.1 I realised that all 2.5's have a wiring loom with with two throttle pot plugs. One by the drivers strut and an unused one under the LHM resovoir where the 2.1 one plugs in.

Regards

John

Hi Colin

Next stage is to check the code number on your Lucas ECU with the code number on a similar age 2.1 exclusive with EPIC. A parts list check will do. If they are the same then you will have the Cruise software in your ECU. I am still in the process of tracing the 2.5 cruise wiring. So far I have found that the dash switch wiring is separate from the main loom.
First parcel went air mail yesterday.

Regards

XMexc

Hi John, many, many thanks for sending the goodies biggrin.gif I haven't paid you yet though... what do I owe you and how would you like to receive funds ?

I wouldn't know where to go to check the ecu info but if it's any use, it is marked thus:

DCU R 04010007 C
80518 F
Serial No 1643 LMG

96 229 789 80
XUDLC01 18.11.94

Very best wishes, Colin.P

Hello readers

My 2.1 TD Lucas EPIC injection pump developed a slow leak from the area of the two solenoid?? bobbins on top of the pump. I received (by mail order) some very helpful advice, replacement Delphi O rings and an exploded diagram of the offending area from: Merlin Diesel Systems Ltd, Lincoln Park, Walton Summit Centre, Preston, Lancashire PR5 8NA. email dieselman (at) blueyonder.co.uk.
They used to advertise via ebay but I have lost those details.

One thing they did point out however was a warning not to go too far with pump dismantling as this would result in the need for a relatively expensive recalibration.

Regards, Ken Hall

Hi Colin,

There were no running problems that I am aware of, just a smell of diesel under the bonnet after a run and (diesel) 'dampness' emanating from the top of the pump - more of a weep than a real leak.

Regards, Ken
