An XM is not your run of the mill French, car in fact far from it ,but they are well worth the hassle. You can delete the bottom part of your sigature now!

Indeed Peter!
I take exception when someone refers to my XMs as 'oh those bloody French things', or tries to tar it with the same brush as Renault, Peugeot etc. French it may be, but run of the mill or conventional, certainly not! A Renault it aint! -------------------- '95 XM 2.1TD VSX Hatch: RP 6429. Rare green ;-)

I only compare it to my old Renaults (by old I mean R30, R16, R12) in that it is cheap, rare, disregarded by the masses, distinctively styled etc. etc.
I really didn't mean to cause offence Anyway - I'm picking it up tomorrow - I'll let you know how it goes! -------------------- Tim

Ah Renault 16. What a motor! I had one, think it was an early TL. It rotted in front of your eyes and as for beauty, err well yes a sort of perverse beauty if you like!
Drove very well, exceptionally comfortable, brilliant lights and of course multi functional. However the technical design engineer must have worked at Andre's before moving on to Renault. It was an absolute B*&^*+d to work on, so yes very Citroenesque in that department. -------------------- Dave.
To flush, or not to flush? That is the question.............. 2.5TD VSX Hatch RP 6738 1992 BX16 TXS........Hasn't been well but getting better! Now has driveshaft gaiters and a dry bottom! Black Country, Staffs. |

Hi All
AND as far as the V6 versions go, they are UNFORTUNALLY the nearest to renault it will get, as its the same PRV unit from the Ren 30 and 25, and also the Pug 505's and 604's But they are still a league of their own! A 2.1ts manual is a PRETTY good starter car.. I was given a 2.1 td SED.. on an H plate, needing sills.. So good it is I still have her and WILL be putting sills on it its really that good all over... EVERYTHING (Except sunroof and air con, which ONLY needs a re gas) works!!! Regards citroenxm -------------------- 1993 K Reg 3.0 V6 12 Valve Auto (Green) LPG S1.5 SORNd

Well - I drove the XM back from Portsmouth to Bristol, via Guildford, without incident, so I'm quite happy with my £200 purchase.
It's a bit smokey on start up, but that clears fairly quickly. A number of things don't work (central locking, front windows, speedo) and some things are broken or damaged (stereo cover, glove box latch, dented bonnet etc.) but it's quite useable. One nice thing is the front strut tops - they look perfect. I'll be dosing them up with waxoyl or something similar to keep them that way for a bit longer. I'll post in the wanted section for some parts I'll be needing! I could rabbit on about my Renaults here - but perhaps I'll save it for another time! Thanks for the welcome! -------------------- Tim

mouseflakes,
I see you have a Ren 30 in your signature, shame its only a TS and not a TX!! Must be the only one left now in the UK ?? When I was a little younger, and to be honest before the XM was born, I DID like the 30 very much!! I got a "Motor" mag from about 1979 I think, and it has a COLOUR ad in it of a BLACK Ren 30 TX and it looked the part! And that 25 TX!! in Black, that was geourgeous, I liked the 25 very much too and nearly bought one.. had yours been abused? I ask as the 2.0i Multivalve engines are useually buillet proof, many managing 200+ miles? Still two great cars after each other... oh so why the Safrane was just so ...... um ................
