Doing some work yesterday on the XM including greasing the drop link ball joints to see if that perhaps helps - well it beats buying new ones at this time....

Anyway, bit of a visual glance under the bonnet and I noticed something strange with the top radiator hose. Yes, on the inner side of the elbow it has split the outer casing! mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

So it appears I will be contacting my local supplier tomorrow morning to see if he still has that low km 2nd hand one from the car that I got a lower pipe from 18 months ago.

Stupid cars! Why do we do it to ourselves?

Hi Craig,

Is there any oil contamination on the rubber at that location? The oil goes for the vulcanising bonds in the rubber and turns the rubber all jelly-like.

cheers

Helps to do what? And how do/did you grease these joints?

I removed the links from the car, "scrolled" the larger spring off each end, pulled the boot back over the end of the bolt a bit, wiped out the old grease, shoved in some new grease and used the Haynes BOFT theory.

What does the acronym stand for?

Book Of Fairy Tales. As in at least half of what is printed in some instructions is fantasy when you attempt to put it into practice.

BTW - spoke to my parts guy this morning and a low low distance 2nd hand hose is on its way for $178AUS. So I am driving the car with the rad cap loose at present, which is OK in our winter.
