A 2.5 in good nick has a 2metre square undertry to remove before you can see anything from underneath!

Update - I did have a go at doing the accumulator in the end!

It's not to bad once you work it out. And there is no need for special tools.

First I tried a nylon strap type filter wrench - this broke up so I assumed the old chisel tactic would work best.

Working from the top, the trick is to file a suitable slot (I used a triangular file) in the seem of the sphere.
Then using a very long screw driver
(a long piece of strip steel e.g 20mmx 2 mm or 3 mm and half a metre plus in length might also work)
-you engage a verticle edge against the slot in the sphere (you can hold the screw driver quite easily if the handle is long enough to clear the works) and with the aid a very short handled hammer - tap - tap - tap very lightly on the oposite edge - keep going - I hit it about thirty times, in the end the rust gives and the thing can be unscrewed the rest of the way by hand.
