Hello To all xm users,
I have just found this site and it looks really good. Seeing as I love my xm I thought it only right that I join your club, thanks for being here. I bought my 2.1 td J redg Hatch off ebay about ooh er????? eight months back. I had just written my Xantia off oops! Bonnet opened at 50mph on the way to work ,no one else involved so I guess I was very lucky. I had read a load of reviews on the net trying to figure what car to get next, looked at big rovers,Omega diesels etc etc.when I read about the XM I had to have one. The car was only 30 miles away so I had a look before bidding. I have never looked back ,the car is an absolute belter, really well cared for and as reliable as you could wish for. Anyway I am glad I wrote the Xantia off or else I wouldn't have found this XM. Cheerio for now. Happy dude |

Hi Happy Dude
Welcome to the club. If you want a comfortable, refined, roomy and economical car you can't beat a diesel XM. I am on my 4th now, a 96 2.1 TD manual estate, I have tried diesel Omega's and all sorts of other things, but nothing comes near it. As a semi retired TV engineer I find that the estate will comfortably carry several 28" wide screen TV's with room to spare, I have also moved several 3 piece suits in it but not all at the same time! Mine averages 40mpg but I do live in a rural area so most trips are at least 10 miles, on long journeys 850 miles on a tankful is easily attainable. They are a pig to work on though, mine must be one of the very last with a fully mechanical injection pump, the later ones have electronic control and the 2.1 estates are only available in automatic, which I dont like much, which is why at the moment I am struggling to change the head gasket on mine. In the past, when something has gone seriously wrong, I have bought another one as they have been fairly plentiful and cheap, if you look in the right place, but now they are getting scarce, so I shall keep this one going as long as I can. Thanks for that Peter.
The only thing that bothers me with my car is the pssssssssssssst that constantly sounds from the hydraulic system.I will get it sorted I just might wait until the weather warms up a bit first. Apart from that it is a brilliant car, always reliable very comfortable and a sure footed and capable cruiser for distance driving. I intend to keep this one as long as I can it's a good solid car and worth looking after. Happy dude |

Most of them seem to have some problem in the hydraulic department and I have had my fair share. The one I have now hisses quite a lot, I suspect that it is the regulator thats defective on mine but it goes OK (or at least it will do if I ever get this head gasket fitted) so I dont worry about it too much.
