Hi,
Not sure if this is how they all are or not. My XM has an 'electronic control' heater, not AC. I've noticed that I only get hot air from the vents when the temperature control is nearly at max, is this normal? Tried it yesterday when it was quite cool outside. Just curious really. Thinking of swapping it for a boat what with the weather. Thanks. Steve. -------------------- XM 2.1 SED - RP5876

Steve, it is certainly worth cleaning the unit out and making sure it is moving air properly. The down side to the location is the sun on the roof. It can raise the temperature around the sensor and if the fan is dirty and not moving the air around very quick the sun can override the sensor and give you cold air in the car.
The same is possible with the location of the fan in the Xantia. If the sun overheats the dashboard you get the same problem until it all settles down again. Robin. -------------------- XM ownership - He took a bite and kept chewing!

Hi Steve
The other possibility is that the speed control transistors have gone on the blower fan. This is a common mode of failure under which the heater fan only blows air on the full speed setting. Tried the weather round your way yesterday on a trip picking up bits. Best wash the car has had in years. Yes it has rained hasn't it, I certainly know because the rear drivers side footwell was swimming in water. The boot is soaking too on that side so I'm assuming it leaked in via the hatch or lights and trickled into the foot well.
Where abouts did you go to? Steve. -------------------- XM 2.1 SED - RP5876

Hi Steve
Up the M1 to collect a bit of new bumper trim from M&M at Holmbridge then across to St Helens for a printer. Carefully planned trip to avoid the heavy traffic. It went wrong from the start as at Newbury a couple of lorrys shut the north bound A34. We were already a couple of hours late by the time we got the benefit of the West Yorkshire car wash. At least the V6 stayed dry inside now I have sorted the aerial. Next the promised views over Holm Moss turned out to be a trip through fog from the low clouds. The trip through Manchesters evening rush hour followed by a stop start trip back down the M6 in the evening completed the perfect day. SHMBO was not 100% impressed with her day out particularly as she noticed that I got done everthing I wanted to do.
