Hi Mike

Well, Mine's working OK. The only thing it does do is sign me 'Tiscali' insted of my name, so people don't know who the mail is from.

I read in the paper that tiscali - specifically - had been targeted by spammers.

Hi both.

The confusing bit is that your mail appears to be sent (pops up in the 'sent' folder; no notification of non-delivery), but doesn't seem to arrive. Not a great state of affairs if the intended recipient thinks you're ignoring them !

Mike.

Hi Mike. you've got me wondering now. I sent myself a text about 15 mins ago, just to test, you understand, and it hasn't arrived yet although it says 'sent'. If you like, you could try sending me mails through my e mail and the message service (click on my name) and see if both or either arrive.

Hi Pater.

Don't think sending off the forum will count, as it will go from the forum server, I guess. If you want to try mine directly it's onthecutATtiscali.co.uk

Regards, Mike.

Hi Mike,

Whilst your e-mail account is with Tiscali, is your broadband account also with Tiscali? If not then you may be in the same boat as me. I have an old freeserve address that I've had for longer than I care to remember but my broadband is now with Tiscali. Freeserve (then Wanadoo, now Orange) thinks that I've let the account lapse since I don't use dial-up any more. So, automatically, they freeze (suspend) my old freeserve account which allows incoming e-mails but not outgoing. The outgoing e-mails go straight in the bin in the sky. When I recognise this is happening I have to go to the orange website and 'Retreive my suspended' account. I go half way through the process without allowing orange to install anything and hey presto the account is no longer suspended and it lasts another 3 months like that until I have to do it again. Why they let me keep the account at all which generates no income for them is beyond me. You'd think they'd just delete the account all together.

Why they regard the account as being unused when I get 100 bits of spam a day is beyond me. The account is well used.

BTW has anyone else experienced a huge upsurge in the volume of spam from about 2 weeks ago? I can't delete it fast enough.

cheers

Hi Noz

Yes, I have had an increase in junk mail in the last few weeks. When I changed to broad band and my email address - no junk mail, and its taken them a couple of years to find me again - but its back!

Peter.

Hi Peter, Noz

Peter -- your direct mail arrived OK, have sent reply -- so let me know ! Noz -- no, I'm with Tiscali for the lot. Have had a Google this evening and it seems Tiscali are in the doghouse among ISPs for allowing excessive distribution of spam from their server(s) and have effectively been blackballed until they get their act together.
None of these things would be so bad if they actually came clean at the outset. It's the not knowing and then firkling about with your settings because you think something is wrong that really gets to me. I used to be with Freeserve, but their 'outages' as I think they called them got beyond a joke and I gave up.

Mike.

I read about this on ThinkBroadband last night. Apparently Tiscalli have ended up on some Spam blacklists due to excessive spam from (or rather through) their servers. They are supposed to be sorting their spam filtering and getting themselves removed from the blacklists. However, getting removed from spam blacklists is a rather slow process.

So things should go back to normal at some unknown point in the future.

re spam, I get loads, managing it has been a lot easier since I switched email client to firefox.

Yes, changing addresses and making sure your raw address isn't posted on the net helps, but all it takes is for someone with your new address in their address book to get hit but some address harvesting malware and your'e back on the list again.
