Hi all,

I finally got to fit my door trim back, together with the "clicky" Bitron box. The bitron and one-touch switch that xmexclusive kindly sent were behaving exactly like my stuff, ie clicking on pressing any button, but window not moving.

Today (and in previous retests) the window moved -accompanied with the click, which is not so audible if the window moves-. So I put all the trim back, try again, all works, and then...stop working. I expected this as I new I hadn't fix anything. Trie dagain all of xmexclusive's bits, nothing, was ready to undo again all door trim, when I give 1 thud on the trim where the bitron is. Worked again. I left it as such.

Conclusion, it is not the Bitron nor the switch, it looks like it's a bad contact somewhere in the wiring that goes with the front door. God find it....

cheers
G

ps. John, ur bits in the post in a couple of days -a million thanks-.

Since getting the car back from the indie my drivers window has packed up wacko.gif .

Before the lay up last year all the windows worked fine on all switches. I noticed when taking the car over to the indies the other week that only the one touch worked. All other windows are working fine. The front passenger is very noisy (gritty noise) but always has been since I had the car. There is no noise whatsoever on the drivers door. Total deadness. I have a feeling the switch is duff and maybe needs a good clean, but how do they come out? I just tried levering it out with a screwdriver but stopped for fear of breaking it. sad.gif

Another strange thing, the sunroof is working fine ohmy.gif . That has always been iffy even when everything else was ok!

Another day another challenge laugh.gif

Hi Guys

Don't forget possibly the simplest culprit of all ----- broken wire or wires in the pillar to door conduit, particularly if the symptoms are intermittent.

Mike.

All the rocker switches are liable to failure, especially if the car has not been used for sometime, so I would go for that first, especially as the 'one touch' is working. I have just had to replace the sunroof switch because it was very intermittent. The door switches should just prise out so I expect yours has just stuck. I have tried squirting switch cleaner into them but it unusually doesn't seem to work. You can take them to bits and clean them but watch out for flying springs and rollers!

Yes, I'd agree. Between both cars I've had to change three window switches and a sunroof one in the last year months or so.

Never tried taking one apart, but I understand they're full of pingfukkits as Peter says...

They're okay to take apart.

The best solution I've found is to submerge them in contact cleaner fluid and exercise them under the fluid - looking at the fine debris that settles at the bottom of the container it must be doing something good.

Then all I do is gently lever off the top rocker and apply a bit of PTFE grease onto the pivot points.

This has worked on all my intermittent switches but obviously doesn't work when some idiot connects the 'one-touch' button to the passenger window plug by mistake then tries holding it down wondering why the drivers window isn't moving. The passenger plug wiring must be different and a dead short because it simply burnt the contacts to a crisp before the little bit of wafer thin spring steel gave up the ghost and melted.

If your switch makes a crackling noise and emits a wisp of smoke you're too late tongue.gif

Hi All

The Mk2 drivers window switches with one touch are single pulse contacts driving an electronic box mounted on the drive motor. It is easy to burn out the control components. The other window switches give a continuous 12 volt, high current supply direct to the winder motor when pressed. These seldom suffer electrical problems. There are 4 types of window switch all with polarised connectors to prevent plugging in the wrong switch. These are: 4 button one touch drivers window switch, Rocker switch with back lighting for front passenger window and SX drivers window. Rocker switch without back lighting for rear windows. Centre consol switches for rear windows.
The plug wiring/functions for the passenger window and rear door switches are identical so if the polarisation is removed then these switches can be interchanged.

Regards

XMexc

I thought that tongue.gif but the polarising isn't idiot-proof. You can cross connect the one- touch drivers and passenger switch on the drivers door panel. I did it with the consequence above. Be careful peeps.
