Central lcoking is doing the lock/unlock performance. I have isolated it down to the front passenger door lock. Barrels are all new. If ns front lock is isolated locks function properly. Connect ns door and as it locks it unlocks immediately. This will happen if I manually operate the small rod or do it with the plip or key. When doing it with the plip I have noticed that the small rod does not move either up or down. It is not a door trim problem because I have removed it. This is driving me mad.

Hi Jim that lock problem you have is the same as i get with my 2.1 when one of the doors is not closed properly i.e. the seat belt is laying in the doorway and blocking the door from shutting properly.
Sounds as though perhaps the door is not registered as closed /switchproblem /solenoidon the lock mechanism? I am not an expert but maybe there is a clue in there. good luck ,Bob -------------------- 2.1 td xm hatchback 94/95reg n.

Hi Jim
It sounds like the front passenger door catch. As they age with use the electric locks regularly go awol and have to be replaced. Just check that it is not the mechanical part of the catch on the central door post that has got out of adjustment first. That is very easy to adjust (two bolts) but mark the position before you move it so you can put it back to original position. Then check the latch switch near the bottom of the pillar again very easy. Next uncouple the electrical connector at the front of the door and clean the contacts. When these all fail try cleaning up the electrical plug contacts on the door latch and if you can then treat the latch to a bit of WD40. After this swap the latch with a known good one and if this still fails to cure then the door wiring becomes suspect. Wear between the cable strands on the flexible front connector is not unkown and wear/corrosion breaks have been reported in the wiring loom in the front door. Worked my way through all the easy ones and it was none of them so tomorrow I will have to remove the whole lock and have a look.

Hi Jim,
I've had the same problem with MkI & MkII XM's. Last time (MkII) I ended up fitting a new lock. Check out the thread I started last time here: http://club-xm.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=704&hl=locking Looks like there could be a much simpler solution! I hope this helps a little. Finally gave up and cheated! Having tried all suggestions I took the lock out and sprayed it with WD40, well more like showered it in the stuff, then put it back in, connected up and it did exactly the same, lock, unlock. So I removed the two pin socket plug, nothing, still the same, replaced that and removed the four socket plug Eureka!! central locking works so it can stay off, don't know what it does and I don't care.

I presume you also put it back and was not working again? Or just left it disconnected after first attempt??

No. 4 socket plug is now disconnected but locking is working perfectly with the plip which is what I wanted. Will test it with the key later but really don't care if it works with the key or not.

Hi,
If you've got a working solution - you've saved yourself a small fortune. The replacement lock cost me £80.91 +VAT from Citroen. Roy -------------------- '98 'R' XM 2.5 TD Exclusive Saloon RP 7200 Magenta
