I've never been able to open the armrest covers in the front of my S1 car. I assumed they weren't meant to open like those at the rear. However on my new S2 XM the front ones open as well, another quite handy bit of storage (but no cup holder, and no flat bits like in the S1 for resting cup on, but thats another story).

Have my S1 front armrests been bodged so they won't open sometime before I got it, or are they not meant to open?

thats in advance

Yep, I can second what CitroenXM has said, I too had a '90 base spec 2.0i, and the door arm rests opened in it.

yup the Prestiege is leather, and A/C, only 6 spkr stereo and no electric seats though. I'll have a slightly more vigorous prise with an appropriate tool when I get the chance. To think, I've been without those extra pockets for 9 years! This forum is great :-)

Hi DrTim,

This is the good bit... If you end up breaking the door pockets they ARE independantly removable from the door trim!!

If you remove the door trim then on the reverse you'll see the door pocket.. I cant remember if they are screwed or plactic rivet.. anyway, removing that, the pocket will come out of the trim for replacement.. I have many but with cloth trim, not leather unfortunally..

Hi All

There is a version of the front door panel with a moulded "look good but no use" block instead of the glove box. Most Mk2 SX's were fitted with them as standard and also I suspect bottom of the range Mk1's. There was even a rigid topped non opening cover for the centre console.
I have come across the odd car where the initial purchaser had an aversion to leather and had either the seats or all the the trim changed to cloth. The glove boxes (and sudo boxes) are identical in size and shape. Not too difficult to swap over, they are fixed to the door panels with industrial staples. Now swapping just the glove box lids cloth to leather can be fraught with difficulty as there are 2 different/incompatible designs of lid hinge.

Hi Dr Tim

Forgot to mention that fixed blocks in the door panels goes with non electric front seats as a standard trim format so I do not think prising will open your prestige ones.

xmexclusive, again you come up trumps! Those tops are very very difficult to move!

As you can see from the pic this car has leather or leather effect where the pocket SHOULD be and cloth background.

Hi Citroen XM

Sometime I will try and find my heap of brochures to see if I can get a definitive answer. From memory there was something strange about a Mk1 Prestige. I recall it being a bottom of the range basic car with a few of the upmarket bits added to rebrand it in one of the years when they had nothing much else for release that model year.
