My n/s mirror has been playing up for a while. Not answering the buttons properly. I stripped and cleaned the buttons today (interesting
After a couple of goes I got it all back together but when I put the glass on it struggled to move very far. I thought about using some light grease or silicone on the swivel ring. Has anybody tried this? -------------------- Dave.

Hi demag,
Certainly it will cost you nothing to try so give it ago. Does the mirror glass sit centrally in the aperture? Is the glass rubbing on the side anywhere? Try assembling the glass onto the motor assembly out of the mirror housing and then exercise it. If it works in your hand but not in the housing then its fouling on something in the housing. hmmm, I swapped out the one before the last one I had on the NS eventually because of the same problem. Could not get the mechanism working right, I'm not saying you can't but it was an easier repair for me, I think I swapped out the circular bit from one that had damaged metalwork that I'd had the sense to hang onto. It IS possible to get the circular bit thru the opening without damaging anything, but quite tricky. I found that easier than actually removing the wiring plug from the circular bit.
I wish I'd hung onto more of the damaged ones I had replaced over the years now, lucky we have ebay but the cheap one I got there was a bit manky really, I do have a NS mirror again but i doubt it will survive a proper clout and the glass that came with it is not XM glass unless there were several sizes on S1 XM's. I've probably got enough bits to repair it again though, unless the outer plastic shell gets mangled again. Another tip, I had real difficulty getting the (suspected non XM) glass tio "click" into position. The springy wire was a bit rusty and stiff so I swapped in another bit (I got load of cracked glass bits too!) and it clicked into place first time! oh, why am I getting another XM when I still live in the city with loads of narrow streets and occasional lunatic drivers :-) Even if I park real close to the curb the XM is so wide it is most liklely to get hit, if I fold the mirrors in then they'll be scraping the side panels (happened twice to me), I'm hoping I won;t be looking for S2 mirrors on ebay for a long long time! -------------------- XM 2.0i Prestiege (Red) 1992 K reg RP 5692 (deceased)
