Well, we got it home in one piece. Had a very pleasant surprise when we stopped to put some fuel in, (fuel gauge doesn't work - first job?) the sun was shining on it and I realised that under the traffic grime, it does in fact have that lovely red mettalic paint I lke so much, so a good clean is also urgently needed.

I put it on the ramp this morning, to investigate some rattling underneath, which was quite easy to find, the front exhaust box it touching the height adjustment rod. The reason for this seems to be is that it has no rear box, just a pipe from the centre box. It looks like a proper fitting but its certainly not the standard 2.1 td exhaust. Anyway, thats whats causing the front box to be displaced to one side.

The underneath of the car has been steamed clean and is completely oil free, as is the engine. It apparantly had a new short engine and reconditioned head with new hydraulic tappets, recon injectors a new water pump and a new clutch, which is very light. There are also a lot of new pipes and suspension bits, and he also threw in a couple of new tryes! So all in all I am very pleased with it - so far!

Hi Peter

Pleased you finally got a replacement manual 2.1TD.
If you check the colour code I will see if any of the recoverd doors match and have survived regular moving out of the way.

Regards

XMexc

Hi Peter

My doors are from a car and you need an estate one. I have never managed to successfully recover the estate door top trim without breaking it. I am also not sure that this bit of trim is the only difference between estate and car doors.

Regards

Hi XMexc

Well, its not exactly a replacement, its an 'as well as' . My sons BX has just died so I'm letting him 'look after it' for me. Its had so much work done on it that I couldn't really let it go. I have just sorted the exhaust out this morning and stopped the rattling. I noticed that one headlamp was shining in my mirror when he was following me home yesterday, but its not the lights, its the suspension height, to high at the front and to low at the back, I will do that this afternoon if I can get the clamps undone. Also the fuel gauge doesn't work so that will be a priority.

Thanks for the offer of the door, where do I find the paint code?

Oh right, XMexc. Do you have an estate door in any other colour?

Hi Peter

The only estate doors that are definately spare are on the deregistered (was P reg) 2.5 but I think I damaged the metalwork of the front passenger door when the battery went flat with it deadlocked and I found that I had lost the keys.

Sorry

Hi Peter,

Glad to see the car's been a success.

QUOTE
Someone kindly offered me a red n/s front door, I cant remember who it was, but have you still got it? I am picking it up on Sunday, so assuming it gets home allright, I will let you know what I need.

I didn't offer you one - but I do remember suggesting there was someone on eBay breaking a maroon S2. It's a hatchback though. Although the auction ended some time ago I know he still has the car (which looked to be in good nick).

If you need his name and e-mail address - just let me know and I'll PM it to you.

The car's in Kent - so not exactly handy for you either!

Roy

Hi Roy

If I remember correctly, I did send him an email but have not heard anything. I think he was at Maidstone, not far from where I used to live, many years ago. My car is metalic red but they are a bit rare to say the least, so it looks as though I might have to have to dust the cobwebs off my spraygun. Thanks for the post anyway.

Hi Peter,

That's why I noticed it - and thought I'd let you know - the car he's breaking is metallic red. He can take a while to reply - but I did get an e-mail from him this morning.
