I've Just Bought Another One...

I have just bought another 2.1 td estate, reg N451YBL my present one is N471YBL and my previous one N497YBL. I'm going for the set! I shall be looking for spares for it, Its the red one I looked at a few weeks ago and turned down, but my sons BX has just died, so I am going to let him 'borrow' it.

Someone kindly offered me a red n/s front door, I cant remember who it was, but have you still got it? I am picking it up on Sunday, so assuming it gets home allright, I will let you know what I need.

Not bad. 200k but only 400 miles on recon engine, new clutch, new spheres, exhaust, battery and some hydraulic pipes. It drives beautifully. I paid £599.00, the 'buy it now price, more than I would have liked, but the bidding was getting dangerously near it. I reckon the chap must have spent £2k on it.

Bad points : Dent in front passenger door, rust in n/s rear wing! A rattle from under the front, I think its something to do with the height selector rod, he must have bent it when removing or refitting the engine. Sunroof doesn't work properly, remote locking not working. All things fixable, just some time needed. It does have a tow hitch though, I bought one for the other car but have never got round to fitting it.

I dare say other problems will come to light, which you will probably hear about.!

When I first got mine all those years back it did rattle a lot at the front, turned out to just be a heat shield come loose. I think a new rubber thingy of some sort was all it required.

Yes, they do look nice in red. There was a beautiful metallic red one for sale on ebay a couple of years ago, it was a 'T' reg, manual must be the only one in existance! I bid on it but it went for silly money considering it had done 300k and had numerous faults including a bashed front wing. If this one turns out to be as good as I hope, I would consider having it resprayed that colour.

My present one has a slight rattle/vibration which you can only just hear, it seem like the exhaust touching something or a defective engine mounting, but I have never been able to find it. I changed the bottom mounting and have just fitted a new exhaust - its still there. Seems most noticable when its pulling hard i.e. when the engine is leaning backwards, but as I say its not really intrusive, but I wish I could find it!

Yes you did. I went to have a look at and was very impressed by the way it drove. As no one bid on it, I left him an offer of £200.00 which I don't think impressed him a lot! . He decided to have the hydraulic leak repaired (new pipes) and run it for a bit, but obviously changed his mind. It would seem that it was more appealing with no hydraulic problems, so to my dissapointment, people started bidding for it....and you know the rest.

I am afraid that with the rarity of XMs now, especially Mk2 manual 2.1 td estates, only 61 sold in '96, and I have now had three of them, you have to be prepared to travel. I bought my present one in Manchester, looked at another in Skelmersdale, which I now wish I had bought, and this one from Warwick.

Strangely enough there is another one in Exchange and Mart this week, I have no doubt that will also be a YBL reg, its only done 80k but doesn't have a new engine!

I remember seeing one T reg back when they were new. That plate were custom order only in right hand drive apparently.

PeterN, I was actually sat in another N Reg 2.1 TD manual estate a few weeks ago, a musical aquaintance of mine had just picked it up for £300, seemed very clean, didn't drive in it though. Think it was silver. 225k approx!

There is something amiss with the download links from this site, for me anyway.

... following on about the attachments, I saved all the ascii gibberish to a file with jpg extension and it views fine. I'll try again with the pdf's, though my first attempt resulted in a hung Windows. Anyway, don;t kow why I have this problem with this site its the only one) but at least I have a workaround and have seen Peter N's new one.

re Red mine is (:-)) and although it wasn't my preferred colour I have grown to like
it a lot. I almost bought a gold one back then in 98, which was nice but it was a G and
no leather, A/c etc, ended up paying only 500 more for my K presteige.

I have never seen a silver manual one, I suspect it was a '95 'N' rather than a 'YBL'....but then I had never seen a red one until now! I would have liked a silver one, in fact I had considered respraying my green one silver. I used to do quite a lot of respraying in the days of cellulose. but I understand this modern stuff is a bit lethal. The red one should be cheaper to do as I wouldn't be changing the colour, so the door shuts etc dont need to be done. I dont want to spend a fortune on it or somene will probably hit it, and the insurance wont pay. Still, at least I've got a spare one now!. Three of mine have been green, the last one N497YBL, was blue

Sorry about the picture, its usually me that has problems like that, but it works OK for me. What can I do? I am rather ignorant of these things.
