Hello ME
Well the problem with it starting could be a number of things First you should find out if the heater plugs are working fine could be you have some down ??? Second thing to try see if the fuel filter is blocked if been useing doggy fuel could well be ???? also check the filter in the tank ?? under the back seat third one could be fuel pipes got hole in it sucking in air. one easy way to find out is if you put some fuel in a can conected to the fuel filter with a pipe inside bleed it then leave it some time and try it again If it starts ok then it could be a blocked fuel line or fractured pipe drawing in airPS the return pipe will have to be put into the can aswell If all that dont work then it could be down to compretion (Headgasket, Rings Etc One you could try is one I did a few weeks ago might sound daft but it work on mine is if the oil has not been change in a long time and been stood aroud alot put some engine flush in it and change the oil after running it for an hour on fast idle It worked on mine and stopped it smokeing Mot guy said it was running on fresh air when i took it but it had failed last mot on co2 to high and hc`s Last owner told me ????? Now it will catch pigons now 100% better than when I got it, it was slow as a donkey Has for your water leak could be a pipe or even headgasket you will have to get under it to see if any of the pipes are not leaking sometime hard to spot if not runnig. the other thing to do is see if it is bubling in the rad if so it will be you headgasket, or could be water pump leak that can do the same if starting to leak Hope this was some use to you let us know how you get on ?????? -------------------- XM 2.1 turbo Diesel

If you're having this kind of trouble, first thing: check that the fuel line (across top/back of engine) goes straight to the filter housing. If it's stopping on the right hand side of the engine block you need to buy a piece of HP fuel hose approx 60cm long and bypass the fuel pre-heater. This device seems to fox almost every owner going, Paul Johnson bypasses them as a matter of course at XM Centre. Mine improved tenfold from jut this simple job!

For your water loss problem, look under the engine when you first start it from cold, if there any drips from the bottom of the cam belt cover, you could have a leaking water pump.
