Hi,

I bought an alternator to fix my ailing 2.1 TD XM.

It's the wrong one: the alternator inside the box is an A13V194 Valeo and fit's according to the outside of the box:
Citroen:
DISPATCH 1.9D, TD (Servo)
EVASION 2.1 TD
Xantia 1.9 TD Deisel
Xantia 1.9 TD Diesel SX
XM 2.1 Diesel Turbo (I thought that's what I had)

Citroen Berlingo 1.8 diesel, Airco
1.9 Diesel Airco

Fiat ULYSSE 2.1 Diesel

Does this make sense to anyone..?
Does it fit an XM 2.1 TD of older or more recent vintage than mine.
Can anyone confirm what cars this thing should fit..? Many thanks.

I did buy a secondhand alternator from another XM 2.1 TD which was fine, so this is redundant, and needs to move on, if I can just tell who should get it..!

Anyone need a brand new alternator?

cheers
Russell

It does seem from the Citroen Parts list that the correct alternator for your vehicle should be either Valeo A134V1 66 or 109. The number you have quoted does not appear to apply to any XM, whether it be S1 or S2, but I do not have the facilities to identify its correct application.

Does it fit? if so I dont really see a problem, the only differences normally are fitting, pulley size and output. If it fits, it may have a lower output but I am sure it would still be sufficient.

Hi Al

On the subject of Altinators!!

YES I could do with one for my S1 V6 24v.

The one fitted when I had the car packed up when my rocker cover leaked oil all over it, anyway, I repaired the oil leak, then I found a Mitsubishi Altinator from a 12v S2 V6... So far so good, I was getting 13.5 V out and the battery light was out.

Now, 500 miles later, my altinator light is back on, but heres the strange thing, while the car is idleing at 900rpm, the light is on dimmly, however when driving at normal speeds the light is on much stronger, and this also applies when on LPG, so the injectors ARE NOT useing power for the injectors, before you shout.

With a volt meter, put on the battery, its getting a trickle charge of 12.9 V going to 13.3v, but notputting the light out..

Now, should I put a Valeo back on it, or fit another known good Mitsubishi unit on again.. ??

Russell, how much for the altinator, ALSO did you get the HEADLIGHT??

Regards
citroenxm

Hi Citroenxm

You should be getting 14v, 13.5v is not enough. In fact you should have 14v across the battery when its charging, you probably have a faulty regulator. Almost any alternator that fits should the job if the connections are the same.

.>probably have a faulty regulator.<

More likely a diode failed in the alternator. If you can identify the alternator, you will almost certainly find the part listed on the parts list at the Dealer. (Or from my microfiche!).

Altinator is the Mitsubishi altinator, it was fitted to a 1994 M reg 12v V6 if I remember rightly, but I think ALL 12v V6's had the mitsubishi altinator on them

Peter N

Yes I'm aware there should be 14v, and there was for the first 100 miles then zap down to 12.9 to 13.2 v.. Its enough to tie the battery over and it has not flattened the battery AS OF YET, but I'm sure it will

I have another working Mitsubishi unit on another 12v V6 unit to try..

will do with time and dry weather, or when it lets me down completely!
