Hi All,

Having cured my problem with the central locking, I noticed that when I lock or unlock the doors using the plip, the indicators don't flash to indicate that the operation has succeeded. I don't know whether they ever have done, but according to the handbook they should do.

I've had a look at the wiring diagrams in the manual but can't make head or tail of them. Any advice would, as usual, be gratefully received.

Derek

I had this when I first got my car. Turns out the fuse for the alarm (shared with the hydractive computer and some other stuff on S2), had blown.

If the alarm isn't operational, you will still be able to lock and unlock with the remote, however the indicators won't flash, and you will have no working alarm (obviously), also, the deadlocks won't work. Replacing the fuse fixed the issue on mine (not to mention solved the BMW ride quality biggrin.gif)

Might not be your problem, but easy enough to rule out.

Ciarán.

Thank you for the rapid response and advice Ciaran.

On my car the fuse that supplies the alarm also supplies the instruments, radio, dot matrix etc. and they all work, so that looks to be a non starter. But following your advice I will check all the fuses tomorrow.

Hello all
My alarm worked fine with the indicators flashing when you set the alarm/locked the doors.Last summer the indicators stopped flashing...to confuse matters my car still locks with the plip and the deadlocking still works. My red alarm led on the top left of the dashboard is on all the time, when the car is locked the red light flashes though through the code lid.I did check the fuses and found nothing amiss,so deciding life was too short to waste anymore time on it I have left it.
I am sure that it will decide to work again when it feels like it!
All my instruments/radio and the 3.5 pixels I have left working on the dot matrix are working as well.
Regards Rob

Come to think of it, I believe there is a relay the alarm unit uses to flash the indicators... I could be wrong though, hopefully someone more knowledgable can confirm or deny that...

Bearing in mind I fitted an aftermarket plip and receiver, My indicators only flash when I set the deadlocks. But if my memory serves me right I think they flash when I unlock. Could be wrong though huh.gif

Yes just checked.

When I lock the car on the plip: no flash.
When I set the deadlocks: one long flash, 1-2 seconds.
When I unlock with the plip: multiple flashes, even if I only locked the car and didn't set the deadlocks.

Now to add to the confusion wacko.gif Once or twice my alarm has gone off for no reason. The headlamps don't flash, should they?

That's normal behaviour. You will also get the skitzo 'unlock' flashing if you happen to lock (but not deadlock) the doors with the plip, then open them with the key / internal lock buttons.

The headlights should flash with the alarm, however in many cases (including mine), they have been disconnected, or the relay removed.

Checked the fuses today, all OK

Then set the deadlocks (and alarm) for the first time, result was almost the same as Demaq.

Locking the car - no flash
Setting the deadlocks/alarm - long flash
Unlocking without deadlocks - no flash
Unlocking deadlocks/deactivating the alarm - multiple flashes for two seconds.

What fun! I think I'll leave it at that. Thanks to all of you for your inputs.

Derek
