<other than may be to disconnect the gear system in the motor. >
If I remember correctly that's just what it does do - so that it makes it possible to operate the roof by the handle. You can't do it otherwise. -------------------- Xantia 2 litre HDi Saloon X reg 1999

the actual handle for opening the sunroof is a small brass crank that should be somewhere inside the interior fusebox. I can't quite remember where it fits tho - I keep in mine in the glove compartment.
So the thing to do is disengage the motor by unclipping the lever thingy and pushing it in the direction of the arrow, then fit the crank in the hole and turning. That should do it. Incidentally there should be a thread somewhere on the site about how to reset the motor so it stops the sunroof in exactly the right position. J -------------------- Jamieb

Hi Rowanmoor,
I've always puzzled over access to the relays under the glovebox (even the first row of fuses is awkward). So where do you push and in what direction to pivot the assembly down to gain more access? regards Tony -------------------- '98 R 2.1 TD VSX Sal RP 7253 Blue

If your car is as delivered, (ha,ha) the roof key will be under the "carpeting" in the bottom of the glovebox, but as it is only an Allen key, in essence, an Allen key will do the job.. (About 5 mm if I recall). -------------------- Xantia 2 litre HDi Saloon X reg 1999

cheers gents,
then i should be able to manually crank the roof and may be see if it is siezed in any way. I checked my buzzy round things under the front and rear tonight while fitting a new exhaust and found to my relief they are buzzing away, well its more like a high pitched sort buzz but they are both doing it so i will change the centre speres in the hope the good ride comes back. The faults list is slowly going down...Good job - the mot is start of next month cheers mark -------------------- 1994 2.1TD auto estate.

Now you are asking for that level of detail that I can't quite remember IIRC, the whole thing is held in at its 4 corners. The front (closest to passenger seat) are in clips that will release if given enough of a push towards the bulkhead. The back (bulkhead side) is in channels, so can be pushed towards the bulkhead and then allow the rest of it to pivot downwards whilst still supporting the back. You have to have the plastic above the passenger footwell of for it to have anywhere to swing down to. I found that once moved, it could be manipulated into various positions to get 'some' access to bits. However, there is so much wiring in there it takes a surprising amount of effort to move it anywhere. With the glove box out you can see a lot better how it is held in etc, but you could probably get to most things then anyway Cheers, Rowan. -------------------- 94M XM 2.5 TD VSX Estate RP 6430 Forest Green
